Andrew Seliskar goes 1:41.72 in 200 fly at Tom Dolan Saturday prelims

While Reece Whitley was continuing to break National Age Group records in the 13-14 category, Nation’s Capital senior Andrew Seliskar nearly got a NAG of his own on Saturday morning of the Tom Dolan Invite, going 1:41.72 to rattle the 200 fly record held by U.S. National champ Tom Shields.

Seliskar had a great morning, highlighted by that 1:41.7, which is a liftime-best by eight tenths. The NAG record stands at 1:41.52 from Shields in 2010.

In addition to that 200 fly, Seliskar is the top seed in the 200 breast, where he went 1:55.68. He’ll presumably swim both again at finals and could have shots at NAG records in both – Seliskar already holds the record in the 200 breast at 1:52.21.

Second behind him in the breaststroke is teammate Carsten Vissering, the USC commit who broke the 15-16 record in the 100 breast last year.

Whitley’s 1:57.87 200 breast in the 13-14s was obviously the highlight of the morning, and that record-breaking swim got its own story here. Whitley is also the second seed in the 100 back at 53.16, behind Destin Lasco. Lasco, a NAG record-breaker in the 11-12s last year who is now 13, leads at 51.87.

On the girls side, keep an eye on 15-year-old Cassidy Bayer. The NCAP swimmer leads the 200 fly (1:55.86) and 50 free (22.98), plus has a shot to win the 100 back as the second qualifier (54.78). She’s second in that event to 16-year-old Allie Szekely (54.40).

Szekely is also the top seed in the 200 breast after going 2:13.27 this morning.

Some other high points from prelims:

  • 14-year-old Morgan Scott showed some impressive range this morning in the freestyles. She’s the top qualifier in the 50 free at 23.44 and also leads the 500 free in 5:01.59.
  • The boys 100 back should be a great race between Delaware Swim Team’s David Crossland and NCAP’s John Shebat. Crossland, 16, leads the way in 48.87 with Shebat, a Texas commit, second in 48.89.
  • NCAP’s Megan Byrnes leads the 500 free after going 4:47.12 in prelims, but she’ll have to fight off 14-year-old Madison Homovich of North Coast, who was 4:47.31 and sits second. Also in the hunt will be 15-year old Isabella Rongione at 4:49.21.
  • U.S. Olympian Andrew Gemmell went 4:24.45 for the top seed in the open 500 free. He’ll be chased by high school senior Townley Haas, who was 4:25.85. Also finishing near the top was Machine’s James Murphy at 4:26.01.

You can find live results here, though finding the meet on the Meet Mobile app has been more reliable so far this week. Finals begin at 6:05pm Eastern Time.

Cassidy Bayer won the 200 fly in 1.55.53. A new lifetime best. But she didn’t look happy either. 🙂
Meghan Lynch 1.05.90 in the 100 breast. That’s fast for an 11-year-old girl.
James Jones 19.95 in the 50 free.

Yes. 1.41.33 in final. New NAG record. And he didn’t look happy. 😆
He wanted the American record.
Just a question of time.
However, I still wonder why he went so fast in prelims. Keep your energy in the morning.

Seliskar went 141.3 and you could see he was disappointed with the swim. He was going after the American record and you could see he thought he could get it. But he broke the NAG.

GO BEARS! Can’t wait for him to come to Cal.

1.41.72! Wow! Why Andrew Seliskar went so fast in prelims? Are you sure he’ll swim the final tonight? I don’t know. Perhaps he tried the NAG record in prelims and will scratch the final to focus on the 200 breast and another NAG record quest.
And has he swum the 500 free prelims too? He was entered but the live results don’t work.

I’m also curious to see if Mr Lasco can swim close to the 50-second barrier in the 100 back final. I will also look at Reece Whitley (1.55?), Allie Szekely (sub 2.10?) and Kate Douglass’ 200 breast performances, Cassidy Bayer’s 200 fly and both open 500 free races.

Didn’t see him swim the 500 free. Got hear early for the afternoon session. Saw Gemmel, Haas and James Murphy swim but no Seliskar

Scratching the 500 probably make sense, but I was hoping to see a Gemmell-Haas-Seliskar battle in finals.
