The Speedo Sectionals meet in Buffalo kicked off on Thursday night, and North Baltimore Aquatic Club saw both event wins on night one of the meet.
The session kicked off with the 1500 freestyle, where 17-year-old Shannon Conway swam the top time of 17:09.08. This was a six second drop from her previous best time of 17:15.30 from June of 2025. Conway is committed to swim at Ohio State in the fall of 2027.
NBAC also took 2nd with 15-year-old Maddie Dixon, who swam 17:41.18, a four second drop from the 17:45.76 she swam in July.
In the boys’ 800 freestyle, NBAC 16-year-old Avery Heron swam the top time of 8:22.09, winning by three seconds over Eagle Swim Team’s Riley Poirier, who swam 8:25.17 for 2nd overall.
Heron picked up his 2nd Summer Junior Nationals cut in the event, dropping more than two seconds from the 8:24.13 he swam in January and coming in under the cut of 8:23.09 to add a second event to his qualifying time in the 1500 freestyle.
Poirier dropped four seconds from his previous best of 8:29.26 that he swam in July. This swim brings him in under the Winter Juniors cut of 8:28.19 in the event. This is his 2nd Winter Juniors individual cut after he earned qualification in the 1500 last July.
