Rex Maurer on Adjusting to Pressures of Success: “This year has been a real challenge for me”

2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Last year, Rex Maurer broke the American record in both the 500y free and 400m free, won his first NCAA individual and team titles, and made his first world championships team. This year, Maurer admits that he’s felt a lot of pressure with this newly earned success, most of all from himself. After defending his NCAA title in the 400 IM, Maurer spoke candidly on how he has navigated, and is still navigating, dealing with that pressure.
