Men’s 200 Yard Butterfly – Prelims

Occidental senior Austin Lashley, who placed third in last night’s 100 fly, won the first heat in 1:49.29. Wash U. junior Jordan Wheeler (1:49.67) and UW-Stevens Point sophomore Jacob Aegerter (1:50.38) followed. Cooper Knapp of SUNY New Paltz won a wire-to-wire race in heat 2, touching in 1:47.34 ahead of Cal Lutheran freshman Andreas Nybo (1:48.48), Sean Haechler of NYU (1:49.56).

Denison sophomore Robert Williams emerged victorious in a very tight field with (1:46.23), winning his heat ahead of defending champion and NCAA record-holder Brandon Lum of Wash U. (1:46.82) and Nebraska Wesleyan senior Garrett Cadotte (1:48.34). Ian Rainey of NYU, who already has two NCAA Division III titles to his name with wins in both the IMs, took the final heat in 1:47.75. Denison senior Aaron Saccurato (1:48.79) and Kenyon junior Jonathon Zimdars (1:49.02) battled for second in the heat.

NYU freshman Joshua Rine (51.25) opened the backstroke heats with a .02-second victory over Nazareth freshman Seth Farrand (51.27). The next heat was a photo finish among Pomona-Pitzer freshman Nikhil Kundu (49.89), Emory junior Matthew Rogers (49.93), and Calvin senior Skyler Fish (50.04).

Johns Hopkins senior Peter Conzola won the first circle-seeded heat in 48.37; he was followed by Tufts junior Kingsley Bowen (48.60) and Kenyon freshman David Fitch (who placed fourth in the 100 fly final last night doing flip turns). Fitch was later disqualified at the conclusion of the backstroke heats.

Johns Hopkins junior Emily Kuyl, eighth in this even last year, won the penultimate heat by a body length with 47.94. Behind him were Denison senior Jason Wesseling (48.93) and Kenyon sophomore Ben Baturka (49.10). Sage Ono of Emory, third in 2017, won the final heat in 47.93. He was followed by Denison junior Carson Clear (48.55) and Calvin junior Ben Holstege (48.77).

Men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke – Prelims

Johns Hopkins freshman Marcelo Lauzurique eked out a win in heat 1 with 56.39 over teammate Peter Lazorchak and Wash U’s Simon Deshusses, who tied with 56.54. Collin Miller of UW-Eau Claire took heat 2, the first of the circle-seeds, with 54.46, improving his seed time by 6/10. Gustavus junior Tanner Sonnek edged MIT junior Brandon McKenzie, 54.95 to 54.97, for second in the heat.

Samuel McManus of DePauw won a very close heat, touching in 54.54 ahead of NYU sophomore Giorgio Delgrosso (54.62). Wheaton senior Jonathan Dunnett (55.21) was third. Top-seeded Lukas Menkhoff, a freshman at Pomona-Pitzer, won the final heat in 54.42 over NYU senior Timothy Kou (54.63) and Denison junior Tiernan Foster-Smith (54.90).

MIT senior Justin Chiu, who was one of the alternates who earned invites into the meet when Amherst pulled its men’s team, qualified 14th for tonight’s final.

Men’s 1-Meter Diving – Prelims

Connor Brisson of NYU, who came in second in 3-meter diving on Wednesday and who placed third in this event last year, led the morning prelims in 1-meter diving with 514.45 points. SUNY Geneseo’s Samuel Randall, 2017’s runner-up, was just 4.05 points behind the leader. Connor Pennington of Springfield was the only other qualifier to score more than 500 points (503.15).

Men’s 800 Yard Freestyle Relay – Slower Heats
