Big East Champion Xavier has invested in a stock that looks like it may keep going up. Omaha’s Brandon Abboud is improving so consistently right now, he had to make this SwimSwam author wait until Monday so he could get one more unshaved meet in to report some new best times. Over the last two seasons he has cut 26 seconds from his 500 freestyle, 8 seconds from the 200 and 5 seconds from his 100 aboard a train that seems to still carry momentum.
This year, Abboud is hoping to help Coach Tom Beck lead Creighton Prep to their 10th straight team title at the NSAA Championships. Last year he was Nebraska State Champion in the 500 freestyle and Runner-Up in the 200 free, and was also part of the Junior Jays’ State Champion 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
Brandon is a Futures Qualifier who also represents Swim Omaha under Coaches Doug Krecklow and Docket Hartfield. At the 2015 Region VIII Central Sectional last spring he finished 7th place in the 1000 freestyle along with helping SO’s 400 and 800 free relays to 1st and 3rd place finishes respectively.
Brandon has seven individual events that would have already scored in the Big East Championship based on 2015 results. His 100, 200 and 500 freestyle would all have landed solidly in the A-final, making Brandon a strong commitment for the Musketeers.
“I chose Xavier because of the great team environment and strong academic background.”
