World Champ Adam Peaty’s Nan Is A Rockstar (And Has Ink To Prove It)

2017 FINA WORLD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Adam Peaty of Great Britain is one tough beast in the pool, having cranked out a new world record in the 50m breaststroke en route to gold, while also throwing down the 2nd fastest time ever (only to himself) in the 100m event to snatch gold there, too. The 22-year-old will also be contesting the men’s 4x100m medley relay, where the world will look at how fast a split the Loughborough man can manage without setting the pool ablaze.

By all accounts, Peaty has a loving and supportive familial structure around him to help motivate him in his aquatic pursuits. An integral component of that system is his grandmother, his ‘nan’, Mavis Williams.

Having gained fame throughout the Rio Olympics with her adorable tweets such as the one below after Peaty became Olympic champion, the 75-year-old’s Twitter following behind handle @mavise42mavis has grown to over 6500 followers.

Today Adam’s nan has taken her fandom to an entirely new level, acquiring a tattoo very similar to the much-publicized lion that graces the bulging bicep of her famous grandson. Although hers is temporary, Mavis’ tattoo is tribute to how Peaty has performed in the pool this week, with the Brit truly earning the title of the ‘British Lion.’

Take a look at the likeness below compared to the real thing. Who wears it better?

@adam_peaty's nan got herself a new tattoo in tribute of her grandson's incredible performances this week in Budapest! We think it looks incredible and familiar! 😂💪 #FINAWorlds #waterinstinct
