UMBC Adds Three More for Fall of 2018

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County looks to build an already strong women’s program with the signing of three more swimmers for the fall of 2018. This women’s class of 2022 already includes Connecticut Class M State Champion Caroline Sargent, three-time qualifier for the PIAA Swimming Championships Madeleine Songer, and eight-time YMCA Nationals qualifier Maron Weathersby.

Mya Loniewski from Northville, Michigan, Lily McCoy of Frederick, Maryland, and Courtney Spelman of Emmitsburg, Maryland have all announced their intention to swim for UMBC beginning in the fall of 2018.

Loniewski proves to be a strong commit for UMBC. She is versatile across distance freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and the IMs. Hailing from the Detroit area, Loniewski swims year-round for Club Wolverine and attends Mercy High School.

Her best 400 yard IM time would have placed her in the A Final at last year’s America East Swim and Dive Championship meet, while her times in the 100 yard back, the 200 yard IM, the 200 yard breaststroke, and the 200 yard backstroke would have seen her in the B Final of each event.

Best SCY Times:

  • 100 back – 58.25
  • 200 back – 2:05.64
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:26.90
  • 200 IM – 2:09.37
  • 400 IM – 4:30.72

McCoy will bring her talents in sprint freestyle and breaststroke to UMBC next fall. Coming from Frederick, Maryland, McCoy attends Linganore High School and swims year-round for Monocacy Aquatic Club. She’ll compete with a strong breaststroke group who has seen success at the NCAA Division I National Championship level with Emily Escobedo.

At last year’s America East Swim and Dive Championship meet, McCoy’s best 100 yard breaststroke time would have landed her a spot in the A final, while her best 100 yard free and 200 yard breaststroke times would have placed her in the B final.

Her best SCY times include:

  • 50 free – 24.93
  • 100 free – 53.63
  • 200 free – 1:58.77
  • 100 breaststroke – 1:05.13
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:26.32

Spelman also brings her breaststroke skills to the strong group at UMBC. Also from just outside Frederick, Spelman attends Urbana High School and swims year-round for Fox Swim Club. She’ll join Loniewski and McCoy as part of another strong breaststroke class.

Spelman’s best 100 yard breaststroke time of 1:08.84 would have seen her in the B Final at last year’s America East Swim and Dive Championship meet, while her best 200 yard breaststroke time would have placed her just outside of making the C Final.

Her best SCY times include:

  • 50 free – 26.88
  • 100 breaststroke – 1:08.84
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:34.71
