FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts women’s swimming and diving team won 13 events on Saturday afternoon on their way to a 195-102 win on the road at Fairfield. Bella Snyder led the way with three event wins while Maja Boric and Sydnee Aubin each claimed the top-spot in a pair of events.
Snyder opened up her day by claiming first in the 800 Free with a time of 9:17.55 before following that up by leading three top-three UMass finishers with a time of 2:11.35 in the 200 Free as Mariam Labib and Emily Rudiman finished right behind Snyder. The freshman grabbed her third win of the afternoon in the 400 Free with a time of 4:33.81 while Olga Egkorova and Kelly Malyszka finished in second and third.
Aubin’s first win came in the 100 Back as she posted a top-time of 1:07.15 with Kirsten Ardis finishing inside the top-three before going on to win the 200 Back with a mark of 2:25.71 as Jane Denenberg finished as the runner-up. Denenberg added another second-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:24.80.
Boric added to her pair of wins already this weekend with two more, leading the Minutewomen divers to the top-four spots in both dives on the afternoon. The senior recorded a score of 263.47 to win the 3-Meter Dive with Emma Petrovich, Beth Luther and Maddie Doyle closing out the top-four. Boric also won the 1-Meter followed by Luther in second, Doyle in third and Petrovich in fourth.
Mia Flagiello led a UMass sweep of the top-three finishers in the 100 Breast, posting a swim of 1:16.32 to win while Olivia Mozoki finished second and Chelsea Meiring placed third. Meiring led the way in the final individual race, the 100 IM, with a time of 1:09.10 with Aubin and Flagiello tying for second.
Stephanie Judge posted the top swim in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:05.55 to lead the way with Denenberg recording her third runner-up finish of the day. Emily Rudiman claimed the top-spot in the 100 Free with a swim of 59.60 while Kelsey Cordery finished in second after adding a runner-up finish in the 50 Free earlier in the day.
The Minutewomen will be back in the pool next weekend as they host Vermont in the home opener at 1 p.m.
The UMass men’s swimming and diving team won 15 events on their way to a 200-92 win on the road at Fairfield in the RecPlex Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Minutemen opened the day with one of their two relay wins on the afternoon while sweeping the top-three spots in four events.
The first UMass sweep of the afternoon happened in the 200 Free, led by Harry Ortof‘s time of 1:56.06 on the short course while Panagiotis Androulidakis and Dias Konysbayev finished in second and third to help the Minutemen to 16 points. Ortof grabbed another win in the 100 Free with a swim of 54.55.
UMass kept on rolling in the next event, the 100 Backstroke, picking up another 16 points as Seamus Trzewik-Quinn‘s top-time of 58.77 led the way for three top-three UMass finishers. Noah Witt was edged out in second by .11 seconds by Trzewik-Quinn while Sanjay Sekar finished in third. Sekar went on to claim the top-spot in the 200 Back later in the day with a time of 2:11.32 while Colby Vieira took second.
Ryan Pedrick‘s time of 23.92 led all swimmers in the 50 Free as the Minutemen grabbed 16 more points with Charles Rothenberger and Will Munstermann finishing in second and third, respectively. Emerson Kiefer helped UMass secure another sweep of the top-finishers in the 400 Free with a swim of 4:11.55 with Jamie MacDonald in second and Androuldakis in third. MacDonald added a win in the 200 Fly as fellow Minutemen Chase Kent and Brandon Musaku finished in third and fourth.
Ben Gryski and Luther Gordon combined for four top-three finishes across the breaststroke events, opening the day with a one-two finish in the 100 Breaststroke led by Gryski’s time of 1:06.86. Gordon led the way in the 200 with a swim of 2:27.33 while Gryski took third with Tyler Pidde in fifth. Pidde won an event of his own, leading four top-five UMass finishers in the 800 Free with a top-time of 8:41.92.
Casey Ransford added a win in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.38 with Ethan Davey and Rothenberger touching the wall right behind Ransford. Al Madden closed out the day with a time of 58.61 to win the 100 IM as Konysbayev, MacDonald and Witt finished right behind.
Tommy Cotner led the Minuteman divers with a pair of top-two finishes, claiming first in the 3-Meter Dive after taking the runner-up spot on the 1-Meter board.
The Minutemen will be away from competition next weekend before returning to the pool on Oct. 26 as they host NJIT at 11 a.m. in the home opener.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving put up a tough fight against UMASS in their first dual meet of the season but came up short as the women were defeated by a score of 102-195 while the men fell 92-200.
On the women’s side, Morgan Hansen clinched the top spot in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly with a final time of 2:24.57. Hansen also finished runner up in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly at 1:06.46. Maria Nitti won the 50 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 27.52 and finished third in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle. Colleen Young finished in first place in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke with a final time of 2:42.83 and placed second in the 100 SC Meter Individual Medley at 1:11.45. Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj finished in second place in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:08.48. She also placed third in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly (1:08.38). Sara Ostensen also finished in second place in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle (9:22.98) and second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle (4:40.69).
Samantha D’Alessandro, Maria Nitti, Morgan Hansen, and Sara Ostensen placed second in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay with a final time of 1:52.31.
For the men, Patrick Boyle finished in second place in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 8:41.92. Evan Fair placed second in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly at 2:12.56. Peter Gori also picked up a second-place finish in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle at 54.69. Chris Ford placed second in the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke with a time of 2:27.51. Benjamin Kebbell also was the runner up in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly at 1:00.25. Jordan Rahurahu finished second in the 100 SC Meter Individual Medley (1:02.71) and placed third in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly (1:00.38). Austin Twiss also picked up a third-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke (2:13.87).
Will Robinson, Benjamin Kebbell, Austin Twiss, and Peter Gori set a new program record with their third-place time of 3:58.87 in the 400 SC Meter Medley Relay.
Evan Fair, Ian Nelson, Nicholas Adams, and Peter Gori finished in second in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay with a final time of 1:39.01.
“We saw a lot of strong races today and it was great to see us compete against what is usually a top A-10 program” said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. “Our men and women did not back down in the pool or on the boards. These types of meets early in the year really test us and it helps us to prepare for what we’re going to see at championship time.”
Fairfield will return to the pool as they host Monmouth on Saturday, October 26 at 1 P.M. at the RecPlex Pool.
