Tosky Downs Hyman's National High School Record in 100 Fly

Jasmine Tosky, a junior at Palo Alto High, downed the oldest National High School record on the books in prelims of California’s CIF Central Coast Section Championships. Her 51.92 in the women’s 100 butterfly broke Misty Hyman’s public school (and overall) record of 52.41 by nearly half-a-second. Hyman set the previous mark in 1996 while swimming for Shadow Mountain High in Phoenix, Arizona.

This record was one of the few to survive the onslaught of both rubber suits as well as an onslaught of impressive, young female swimmers. Tosky’s time would have placed 5th at last year’s NCAA Championships, and Tosky still has another year to go to improve her mark.

Hyman would go on to continue her collegiate career at Stanford and win a gold medal in the 200 fly at the 2000 Olympic games. Much like Cindy Tran, last year’s 100 back National Record breaker, followed in Natalie Coughlin’s footsteps to Cal, Tosky seems destined to follow in Hyman’s footsteps, given that she is already a part of Stanford’s club program.

Kathleen Hersey’s private school record of 52.44 is still in tact.

She has got to have the most depth and range of events of anyone Ive seen in a long time. It will be interesting to see where she goes to college next year, she would fit perfect in all the top programs.
