NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion set three pool records on Friday afternoon as the men’s and women’s swim team defeated American at the JC Scrap Chandler Pool.
The meet began with the women’s 200 medley relay team of Addison Elliott, Adrienne Rinker, Emma Seidel and Bella Pachek won the opening event with a pool record time of 1:44.16.
Elliott gave ODU its second record of the day, securing a win in the 100 backstroke with a pool record time of 55.41.
Grey Bremer earned a pool record time in the 500 free with a winning time of 4:29.80. Evan Vinarov took second in a time of 4:43.84 and Cooper Beebe took third in a time of 4:44.01.
The men’s 200 medley relay team of Bryce Mortimer, Dawson Truong, Jordan Smolsky and Zachary Redding followed with a win with a time of 1:32.67.
Sophia Kapla led the women’s squad with a third-place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:25.12.
Grey Bremer won the men’s 1000 free with a time of 9:32.99.
Kristilynn Mosley edged out Arielle Grabowski in the 200 free in a time of 1:55.43, while Linnea Kallebo took third in 1:55.96. Mosley added a second win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.50. Mosley added a second win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.84.
The men’s 200 free saw the Monarchs also go 1-2-3 as Nick Martin won in a time of 1:41.47 while Robby Young took second in a time of 1:44.07 and Evan Vinarov third in a time of 1:44.13.
Bryce Mortimer won the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.65, while Jordan Davis took second in 51.40 and Ben Schattenberg placed third in a time of 51.91. Mortimer earned his second win of the day with a time of 1:50.77, while Abd took second in 1:54.91 and Bryant Julian placed third in 2:10.47.
Jadyn Whitt took second in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.29 and Rinker placed third in a time of 1:05.58.
Dawson Truong won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.95, edging Toni Sallaku who placed second in 55.99. Michael Marotta took third in 57.86.
In the women’s 200 butterfly, Charlotte Everhart placed second in 2:08.66 and Linnea Kallebo took third in 2:09.25.
Lucas Abd won the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.29.
Pachek won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.02, Zachary Redding won the men’s 50 free in a time of 20.22. Redding earned a second win in the 200 fly with a time of 49.11 while Smolsky took second in 51.18.
Pachek won the 100 free in a time of 52.22, while Truong earned his second win of the day with a time of 46.75.
In the men’s 200 backstroke, Ben Schattenberg triumphed in a time of 1:53.64.
Rinker won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.01, while Mortimer won the men’s 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:59.55. Sallaku took second with a time of 2:06.53 and Marotta placed third in a time of 2:09.15.
In the 500 free, Kapla took second in the 5:05.98. Anna Lupo placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 58.15 and Emma Seidel placed in a time of 58.83.
The 200 free relay was the final event of the meet as the Monarchs took second with a time of 1:38.00 with the team of Ally Hilbrich, Whitt, Grabowski and Pachek.
The men’s 200 free relay team of Young, Truong, Smolsky and Redding won with a time of 1:23.13.
The Monarchs hit the pool next at the ASUN Conference Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 18 in Orlando, Florida.

NORFOLK, Va. – Six wins on the women’s side and four new top-16 personal bests in program history were the highlight for American University swimming and diving in the Eagles’ final dual meet of the season at Old Dominion. Senior Isabel McGovern and junior Kate Williams each posted two individual victories for American.
Notable Results
- Williams and freshman Abby Rothrock took first and second, respectively, in the women’s 1000 freestyle. Williams’ winning time of 10:13.28 bested the field by just over 10 seconds, and is a personal best that moves her into second place all-time at American.
- Rothrock’s time of 10:23.62 is also a new best, and puts her in sixth place all-time at AU.
- Williams earned her second win of the day in the 500 freestyle, going 5:05.00.
- The Eagles got a win from sophomore Marin Priddy in the 100 breaststroke as she finished in 1:04.01.
- McGovern won the 200 fly in 2:04.79, beating second place by nearly four seconds, and she earned her second victory in the 100 fly in 56.39.
- McGovern and Priddy teamed up with sophomores Piper Crosby and Grace Gilbert for a win and an ODU pool record in the women’s 200 free relay with a time of 1:35.26.
- Crosby earned a pair of second-place finishes individually in the 50 free and 100 back, and Gilbert was second in the 100 free.
- Priddy posted a personal best in taking second in the women’s 200 IM, with her time of 2:07.26 ranking 11th all-time at AU.
- Sophomore Luke Martens took second place in the men’s 1000 free with a personal-best time of 9:38.16 which moves him into 11th place all-time on AU’s top 16 list.
- In the men’s 200 fly, the Eagles took second, third, and fourth place with the trio of junior Ryan Tiffany (1:55.16), senior Madan Morris (1:55.35) and sophomore Cole Coffman (1:56.15).
- ODU came out on top for both the men’s and women’s sides in the team scoring. There was no diving at the meet, as ODU does not sponsor diving teams.
