Channing Hanley, a high school junior from Orinda, California, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Texas for 2021-22.

Hanley swims for Campolindo High School and Orinda Aquatics in Moraga. A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, she placed 3rd in the 100 breast (1:03.12) and swam breast (29.02) on the 4th-place Campo medley relay as a sophomore at the 2019 CIF North Coast Section Championships. She also swam the 200 IM (2:10.47) in prelims. A week later at the California State Meet, Hanley placed 11th overall in the 100 breast with 1:03.35. Although her junior year high school season was canceled, she has notched lifetime bests in a number of events since the start of the school year: 100/200 back, 100/200 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM. Most recently at the Juanita Allington Memorial Senior Champs in Clovis, she came in 4th in the 200 back, 4th in the 100 fly, 6th in the 200 fly, 2nd in the 200 IM, and 4th in the 400 IM, earning PBs in all but the IMs. She got those PBs in February at Carlsbad Sectionals where she came in 8th in the 100 breast, 6th in the 200 breast, 23rd in the 200 IM, and 27th in the 400 IM.

Hanley will join the Texas class of 2025 with Ava Collinge, Ellie Andrews, Jordan Morgan, Morgan Brophy, Olivia McMurray, and Riley Courtney. The Longhorns recently announced the addition of Mitch Dalton to the coaching staff of the women’s swimming and diving team.
