Her right arm never goes into full extension. It’s something you don’t usually see in mid-distance freestylers. I guess it works for her.

That public address announcer needs to find a bit more situational awareness. Summer McIntosh is not going to be excited about a Pro Series record yet he continued to bark high decibel level even after her facial expression gave away that she wasn’t particularly thrilled.

Better job by the poolside interviewer

Well now he wasn’t trying to pump up Summer, was he? He was trying to roil up the crowd, which is his job.

Although she may not be super thrilled with the time, it is a Pro Swim Series Record – something which the crowd (the people who the public address announcer is talking to) is almost certainly excited about. You might get 1-3 of these per meet on average, and they have paid money to be there to see things like that happen.

After 18 years of multiple meets per year featuring pro swimmers, any record is inevitably a remarkably fast time.

Yeesh. And really no taper if I understand correctly. She poured it on early and it paid off. I’m no expert but this girl just might have a future in swimming.

Lol we’ve heard the Summer ‘no taper’ story before.

People respond to tapers differently.

For some athletes it’s a huge deal, for others seems like much less of one.

A lot of the elite girls are very fast in season. Seems less common on men’s side.

More muscle in males means more taper is needed.

According to Regan during Austin the pro team wasn’t tapered at all and it doesn’t seem any different here to me. Personally I would hate to think what we were seeing here from Summer was off of a taper and six months with Bob.

Summer also addressed the whole taper thing in an interview she did with SwimSwam a few months ago.

Can will have a good relay at Com Games

Only 12 Canadians in total are swimming the CGs. Canada almost certainly won’t have any freestyle relays there.

Why isn’t she swimming the Com Games

Because it’s a poor standard meet. At the POs she gets to swim against the Aussies plus Katie, Regan et al

I mean summer is a big enough name to not need the recognition that CGs provides over pan pacs. I do find it interesting though as the schedule at CGs is way more ideal (6 day meet and the only clash would be 200 IM and 800 free on the last day, no semi finals)

I dont know if it’s just me, but I’ve been following sports since the 1970s and the CG used to be HUGE -1978 Edmonton; 1982 Brisbane. The Queen was present at the Brisbane Games (Victor Davis famously kicked a chair on deck in her Majesty’s presence). 😄 Now I don’t even think of CG and have no idea where they have been held the last 20 years.

The PanPacs are only about 12 days away from the CG, so it would be difficult to do both back to back given jetlag, etc.
Most of Summer’s teammates do not qualify for CG as they aren’t part of the Commonwealth nations, so it makes sense she would go to PanPacs with her coaches and team.

I agree; the most exciting race so far. Fantastic result especially considering she hasn’t raced it in a long while.
I also love to see how Summer inspires the young people in the crowd when she throws gifties or her medals to them as she is known to do♡.
