Regan Smith had another successful Pro Swim stop in Westmont, winning the 200 back (2:04.9) and 400 IM (4:35) while placing 3rd in the 200 Free (1:56.9). We don’t see Smith in the 400 IM or 200 Free often, but seeing as she is competing soon at the China Open (March 19-22), she didn’t want to get event fatigue and deciced to switch it up.

Smith is excited to race in China, treating the lucrative opportunity as a “business trip”. In addition to appearance fees, athletes can earn $10,000 for placing first in a race, $6,000 for second, and $4,000 for third. The itinerary will be packed, arriving 2 days prior to the competition and having media obligations the day before the 4-day meet starts.

Could you guys find out why Martinenghi is not racing in China but still going? He posted it on his story. Is he injured or why can’t he race?

Human rights are on the menu just about everywhere these days; I’d rather ‘poor human rights and $50,000 for swimmers” than “poor human rights and $7,500 for swimmers” I guess.

Then again, the $50,000 human rights are probably still much worse in scope and scale than the $7,500 human rights so maybe I’m ignoring the Y axis too much.

Yes, Business = Money. And, CHINA is going to eventually build out the sport of swimming for our future U.S. skilled swimmers. The U.S. missed the greatest sports development opportunity known to mankind as Michael Phelps passed in front of their eyes!!!

Swim in China? Sure, not a peep. Imagine if she swam in a meet in Israel…. We would see Billie Eyelash protesting wearing a pin at the Oscars.

Do what you want, I’m tired of the nonsense
