Sophie Yendell Becomes Youngest Brit Under 27 in 50 Fly LCM

2017 BRITISH SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

City of Derby’s Sophie Yendell has broken the 15-year olds British Age Record in the 50 yard butterfly, and in the process was the fastest qualifier to the open final on Wednesday at the British Swimming Championships.

Yendell put in a 26.99 in the heats, which improved upon her 27.06 done earlier this month in this same pool as a new personal best. The old record belonged to Tazmin Pugh, who swam a 27.22 as a 15-year old.

Her previous record had already lept the age group ladder, making her the fastest swimmer in the 15 & under and 16 & under ranges as well even when she was only 14, and this swim pushes her even further ahead of Freya Anderson‘s 27.12 as a 16-year old. Anderson did her time earlier this month, and re-tied it in Wednesday’s prelims to qualify 4th.

That swim by Yendell was her first of the meet so far. Anderson placed 5th in the 200 free in 2:00.41.
