SMU Reels in Verbal Commitment from Texas Ford’s Joseph Carson

Joseph Carson from McKinney, Texas has announced his verbal commitment to Southern Methodist University for the 2018-19 school year. He will suit up with future Mustangs Brayden Rudd and Connor Dalbo in the fall.

Carson is a senior at McKinney North High School. He swims the 200/500 double in high school, and finished 18th (1:46.06) and 11th (4:43.46) in those respective events at the 2017 Texas UIL 5A Swimming & Diving State Meet. Carson represents Texas Ford Aquatics year-round. In club swimming, he extends his range out to the 1650 free and also swims the 200 fly and 400 IM. He updated his times in every single event he swam last summer, and has already improved in the SCY 50/200/500/1650 free, 200 breast, and 100/200 fly this fall.

His best SCY times include:

  • 200 fly – 1:54.84
  • 400 IM – 4:11.32
  • 200 free – 1:43.50
  • 500 free – 4:41.23
  • 1650 free – 16:25.03
