SMU Secures Verbal Commitment from Breaststroker/IMer Brayden Rudd

Brayden Rudd of Katy, Texas has announced his verbal commitment to swim for Southern Methodist University beginning in 2018-19.

“I am very excited to announce that i have verbally committed to further my swimming career at Southern Methodist University. The beautiful campus, great coaching staff, and wonderful team make it the perfect fit for me. I would like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for believing in me the whole way.”

Rudd is a senior at Seven Lakes High School, whom he represented at the 2017 UIL 6A State Meet. He swam the 100 breast and 200 IM in prelims, finishing 11th in the breaststroke in finals. He also swam legs on KASL’s two freestyle relays. Rudd swims year-round for Katy Aquatic Team For Youth. He had an outstanding LCM season, which culminated in a couple of finals appearances at Summer Juniors. He dropped 1.8 seconds year/year to finish 21st in the 100m breast, and 5.1 seconds in the 200m breast to place 13th overall.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 breast – 2:00.42
  • 100 breast – 57.19
  • 400 IM – 3:59.39
  • 200 IM – 1:53.01

Rudd’s times in the 100/200 breast and 400 IM would score at AAC Championships. He will have two years of overlap with the Mustangs’ Ronen Faur, conference champion in the 200 breast
