Michigan freshman Siobhan Haughey had an incredible weekend at the Women’s Big Ten Championships, taking home five big victories which included three individual wins.
She came up big in the 200 IM final, taking the win with a swift 1:54.97. Not only did that time earn her, her first individual conference title, it also doubled as a Big Ten Conference record.
In the 200 freestyle Haughey was still on fire, winning in 1:43.51 in order to break both the meet and pool records. Her freestyle talents drove her to win the 100 freestyle as well in 47.71.
While her three individual titles display her talent, her value to the Michigan relays proved to be just as much of an asset to securing the win for the Wolverines.
Haughey swam on both the winning 800 freestyle relay and the winning 400 freestyle relay. With those five swims making up her five titles, Haughey also helped earn Michigan points in the second place finishing 400 medley relay and the third place finishing 200 free relay.
With the win at Big Tens, the Wolverine women took their 15th Big Ten Title of all time laying claim to the most Big ten conference titles.
Following her first conference championships, Haughey looks to be one of Michigan’s most important assets heading into the NCAA Championships.
