Sica Appointed CMU Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Former Ithaca College and Harvard University assistant coach James Sica will join the Carnegie Mellon University Swimming and Diving staff this August. Sica will serve as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs.

“We are excited to bring James into the Tartan swimming and diving family,” said head coach Matt Kinney. “His glowing recommendations and impact at Harvard, combined with an excellent swimming background and graduate work at Ithaca College, make him an ideal fit for our program. James understands the Division III philosophy of balancing the student-athlete experience while trying to achieve excellence, and he will add a great deal of enthusiasm, organization and passion to the coaching staff here at Carnegie Mellon. We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome him to Pittsburgh and our campus community.”

Sica comes to Pittsburgh after spending one year at Harvard, where he was a volunteer women’s assistant coach. While at Harvard, Sica was also the associate head coach of the Cambridge Master’s Swim Club, which has more than 260 members.

“I am beyond excited to be joining the Carnegie Mellon swimming and diving team as an assistant coach,” said Sica. “I was blown away during my time on campus and I can’t wait to get to work with Coach Kinney and the incredible student-athletes here in the fall.”

Prior to his arrival at Harvard, Sica was the assistant men’s swimming coach at Ithaca College for two years while he completed his master’s degree in sport and exercise science with a concentration in sport psychology in 2014. Sica also spent his undergraduate days at Ithaca where he was voted team captain his senior season. He graduated in 2012 with degrees in writing and English and competed in breaststroke, IM and distance freestyle events.
