SAN DIEGO – The LMU Women’s Swimming team had a quick turnaround after Friday afternoon’s home competition against Pepperdine, traveling down to San Diego on Saturday morning for another dual meet against the University of San Diego Toreros. Although posting many season-best times, the Lions were no match for the Toreros whose depth and diving squad led to a lopsided victory.

Sophomore Lia Murray was again a standout for the Lions, winning the 100 backstroke by a 1.5-second margin over the rest of the field as she had the previous day against Pepperdine swimmers. Murray also posted the fastest lead-off backstroke split in the 200-medley relay. Freshman Hayden Cutler was again a standout for the Lions in the butterfly events, winning the 100 butterfly by a touchout over freshman teammate Adele Kopis while placing second in the 200 butterfly. Junior Natalie Hogenboom also scored in both butterfly events, placing third in the 200 and fifth in the 100.

Freshman Mati Dixon, swimming as an exhibition swimmer in the 200 fly (each team can only enter four scoring swimmers), posted a personal best time that would have placed her third in the event had it been official.

Erin Kau and Ryann Dorris continued to score in the freestyle distance events, taking fourth and fifth in the 1000 freestyle, while a trio of Lions scored in the 500 freestyle: Mackenzie Kawashiri taking third, Holly Lehr in fourth, and Bella Flaminio in fifth. Lear and Flaminio also earned points in the 200 freestyle with a fourth and fifth-place finish.

Abby ShawLauren Kim, and Sydney Bell covered the sprint freestyle events for the Lions, with Shaw taking third in the 50 freestyle, followed by Kim in fourth. Shaw then moved up to second in the 100 freestyle, with Bell placing fifth.  Heidi Ly scored in both of her individual races, placing fourth in the 100 breast, followed by teammate Alena Sharp in fifth, and then returned later in the competition to add a fifth-place point in the 200 backstroke to the Lion’s total.

LMU swimmers will now prepare for the three-day Winter Invitational hosted by the University of La Verne at East Los Angeles College from November 17–19  where they will once again face off against fellow WCC rivals, Pepperdine and USD as well as other PCSC teams.
