NEWARK, NJ – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team returned to action Saturday, defeating Stony Brook, 193-106. The Broncs improve to 4-5, while the Seawolves fall to 2-3.

The Bronc women won 12 events in the meet.

Karyn Creelman (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) opened the day with a win on the 3-meter, scoring 233.90.

The 200-medley relay team of Connar Melcher (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin), Sarah Fondacaro (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Hannah Yemec (Bluffton, SC/May River), and Lea Opdyke (Ocala, FL/West Port) then touched the wall at 1:48.49 to earn the win.

Mallory Mead (Middle River, MD/Dulaney[Oklahoma Christian]) and Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) finished one-two in the 1,000-free, touching the wall at 10:38.14 and 10:52.79. McLaughlin and Megan Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) swam one-two in the 500-free.

Opdyke and Yemec swam one-two in the 200-free, stopping the clock at 1:55.60 and 1:55.71.

The Broncs got a sweep in the 100-back. Mead, Chastity Ruatos (Lodi, NJ/Immaculate Conception), and Alexa Torres (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) swam 58.96, 59.85, and 1:00.14. Mead and Ruatos later went one-two in the 200-back, swimming 2:06.13 and 2:11.49.

Suriya Pathammavong (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) earned a win in the 100-breast, stopping the clock at 1:07.71. She later led a sweep in the 200-breast along with Allison Stewart (Newtown Square, PA/Lower Merion) and Gianna Farina (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond). The trio touched the wall at 2:29.32, 2:31.31, and 2:32.85.

Yemec led a one-two finish in the 200-fly, swimming 2:08.59 and 2:10.94.

Melcher and Opdyke finished one-two in the 100-fly, touching the wall at 53.34 and 54.28.

The Broncs closed out the day with a win in the 200-free relay. Melcher, Yemec, Opdyke, and Fondacaro combined to swim 1:38.18.

NEWARK, NJ – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team was defeated Saturday at NJIT, 195-105. The Broncs fall to 5-3 on the season, while the Highlanders improve to 6-2.

The Bronc men won four events in the meet.

Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) got the first win of the day for the Broncs in the 1,000-free, swimming 9:33.53.

Matthew Borovik (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) earned the win in the 100-breast, stopping the clock at 57.46.

In the 200-breast, Maxwell Connelly (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) earned the win in the 200-breast with a time of 2:05.40.

David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) got the final Rider victory of the day, winning the 200-IM in 1:54.53.

NOTES & QUOTES
– Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) and Stavros Xantheas (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) finished two-three on both the 3-meter and the 1-meter.
– Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) and Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy) swam two-three in the 100-back.
– Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) was third in the 50-free.
– Lucas Racevicius was second in the 100-free and third in the 100-fly.
– Rucci was second in the 200-back.

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT men’s swimming and diving team closed out its 2023-24 home schedule and honored its seniors with a 195-105 victory over the Rider Broncs Saturday afternoon at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center Natatorium.

“The entire team did a great job today. We had a great training trip over winter break and the team had a good week of practice this week in preparation for Rider, the ten-time defending MAAC Champions. I was very proud of everyone’s efforts, especially our Seniors (Aiden BanIan Horstkamp-VinekarKristopher Fritsch and Matthew Bevan) winning multiple events at their last home meet,” head coach Ron Farina said after the victorious meet.

NEWARK, N.J. – Stony Brook swimming & diving wrapped up its second dual-meet competition of 2024, falling in a 193-106 decision against Rider on Saturday.

The Seawolves currently sit at 2-3 in dual meets in the 2023-24 season, with one more upcoming on the schedule.

Stony Brook won four total events on Saturday, with freshman Sylvia Walker gaining two first-place finishes in the pool and sophomore Michelle Vu adding one. Senior Sara DiStefano added a first-place finish in diving competition. Stony Brook also placed five runner-up finishes on Saturday.

The competition, which was hosted by NJIT, featured Stony Brook and Rider among the women’s teams and NJIT and Rider among the men’s teams.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Walker’s victories were in the 50-yard freestyle (24.23) and the 200-yard IM (2:09.77).
  • DiStefano totaled 227.30 points over six dives to win the 1-meter diving competition.
  • Vu’s victory in the 100-yard butterfly came in a time of 57.71.
  • DiStefano (3-meter diving), Aili Talcott (100-yard backstroke) and Ashley Chui (200-yard IM) each took runner-up finishes individually.
  • The Seawolves took two runner-ups ins relays – Talcott, Vu, Sara Baxter and Mary Kate Conway in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.51) and Baxter, Ashley Chui, Talcott and Walker in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.03).

“I thought we raced well despite the score. Our focus is on the CAA Championships coming up in a little over a month We continue to learn and make sure we are prepared for that meet both mentally and physically,” said head coach Mark Anderson.

Stony Brook returns home to face Wagner in the final dual meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 27 with competition beginning at noon. Following the meet, Stony Brook will honor the late Coach Dave Alexander with the unveiling of the Coach Dave Alexander Record Board.
