Nicholas, Scherubl Named AAC Swimmers of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s swimming and diving honors for the week ending Nov. 1.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Christian Scherubl • So. • SMU
Scherubl won all three of his individual events and helped the Mustangs to a runner-up finish in the 200-yard medley relay against TCU. The sophomore claimed wins in the 100-yard freestyle (46.53), 200-yard freestyle (1:40.03) and 500-yard freestyle (4:36.18). Scherubl’s times in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle rank him top in The American.

Klein produced Zone qualifying scores in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against TCU. The sophomore recorded first place scores of 343.65 on the 1-meter board and 358.72 on the 3-meter board, outscoring his opponents by nearly 42 points in both events.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Tara-Lynn Nicholas • Jr. • SMU
Nicholas won all four of her individual events, sweeping the breaststroke on both days, and competed on the winning 200-yard medley relay team in a pair of dual meets this weekend. On Friday, the junior posted NCAA ‘B’ cut times in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.45) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.94) against Houston. Nicholas finished over three seconds ahead of the closest competitor in the 100 and over five seconds ahead in the 200. Outdoors in rainy conditions at Rice, the South Africa native captured the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, and contributed to a first place 200 medley team.

Micaela Bouter • So. • Houston
Bouter won three events in a pair of dual meets this weekend. The sophomore swept the diving events against North Texas with scores of 308.85 in the 1-meter and 337.05 in the 3-meter. On Friday, Bouter earned a first place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 351.90 against SMU. The Johannesburg, South Africa, product also finished runner-up in the 1-meter (277.35) versus the Mustangs.
