Nathan Adrian clocked a 22.29 in the 50m free and tied for second for his first final at the 2015 ATT&T Winter Nationals. The California stud has had a pretty good year so far. His performance in the 50m free in Minneapolis was the 6th-fastest swim ever by an American and additionally he lowered the American Record to 21.37 at Worlds in August.
Adrian said in his pre-meet press conference interview the meet at Federal Way will serve as a ‘screenshot’ on his road to the Olympic games in Rio. The venue is familiar for him because of his age group years, and he also credits the pool’s depth and design for the natatorium’s ability to turn out solid performances. As the 2008 and 2012 Olympian comments about meets leading up to the Games, he mentions, “Meets like this are about going through your race plan, you know, if you do that the right way, the times will always take care of themselves.”
He goes on to describe the understanding between going through the analytics and science of the races, performing extra physical therapy practices like ‘cupping’ to gain incremental recovery time, and about staying confident in your training and race strategy.
With respect to the Olympics in Rio, Adrian says that right now he’s taking every meet as it comes, looking at with his blinders on is his best chance to focus on the things he’s been working on. He’ll march through more meets in the spring in preparation for his potential 3rd Olympic debut.
Such a respectful guy. Very candid look into the Nicest Swimmer in The World Nathan Adrian
