Mrozinski, Howley Lifetime Bests Highlight Night 2 of Tennessee LC Invite

Tennessee Long Course Invitational

Last night featured plenty of fast swimming in the first finals session of the Tennessee Long Course Invite, a replacement meet for the canceled Knoxville Pro Swim that was scheduled to take place this weekend.

Tennessee freshman Julia Mrozinski, a 21-year old from Hamburg, Germany, blasted a new lifetime best in the 200 free, posting a 1:58.24 to win by nearly four seconds. Mrozinski had extremely tight splits, going 28.03/30.50/30.37/29.34. The swim also becomes Mrozinski’s first best time in the event in almost two and a half years, as her previous lifetime best came from the 2019 German Championships in Berlin, in August of 2019. Mrozinski currently sits 11th in the NCAA in the 200 SCY free with a 1:44.83 and 5th in the 500 with a 4:38.82.

Also putting up an impressive lifetime best was Long Island Aquatic Club’s Tess Howley, who won the 100 fly in 59.28. Howley, who is a member of USA Swimming’s National Junior Team in the 200 fly, split 28.11/31.17 to take the win over Tennessee All American Trude Rothrock by over a full second. Howley’s previous lifetime best sat at 59.64 from last summer’s Wave II Olympic Trials. Howley also competed in the 200 free earlier in the session finishing in third in 2:02.69, a second and half off of her lifetime best of 2:00.90.

The Volunteers also swept the 100 breaststroke races, with 2021 SC World’s bronze medalist and Tennessee sophomore Mona McSharry winning the women’s race by nearly two seconds with a 1:08.02. McSharry’s lifetime best sits at 1:06.29 from Ireland’s National Team Trials last April. McSharry currently holds the top time in the NCAA in the SCY version of the event with her 57.46 from November’s Tennessee Invite.

Meanwhile, Michael Houlie, a Tennessee senior All American and South African Olympian, won the men’s 100 breast in 1:03.29. His lifetime best sits at 59.64 from the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy.  Houlie currently sits 19th in the NCAA SCY 100 breast, with a 52.30.
