MLA’s Ian Miskelley Hands Verbal Commitment to In-state Wolverines

Ian Miskelley, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Holland, Michigan, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Michigan in the fall of 2018. There he will join fellow commits AJ Bornstein, David Cleason, Michael MacGillivray, and Will Chan in the class of 2022. Miskelley announced via social media:

“Very proud and honored to announce my commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Michigan! #goblue”

Miskelley is a senior at Holland Christian High School (whose boys’ team finished third at the 2017 MHSAA Boys D3 Swim & Dive Championships in March), although he does not participate in high school swimming. He trains and competes year-round with Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics, where he is a true utility swimmer, excelling across the board. He competed in the 200 free, 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM at Winter Juniors East, and wrapped up the SCY season at the Michigan 13/14 & Open Short Course State Championships getting new times in the 200 free, 200 back, and 100 fly.

He had a superb long course season, notching big drops in key events. Competing on successive weekends at Columbus Sectionals, Michigan 13/14 & Open Long Course State Meet, and Summer Juniors, he updated his times in the 50/200/400 free, 50/100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM. In the course of a year, he dropped -13 seconds in the 400m IM, -3.6 in the 200m IM, -4.1 in the 400m free, -2.2 in the 200m free, -3.5 in the 200m back, -2.2 in the 100m back, -4.2 in the 100m breast, and -6.1 in the 100m fly.
