Andrew Heise of Club Wolverine has chosen the University of North Carolina for next fall. Heise is a unique sprint free/breaststroke talent with Winter Juniors cuts in the 100 free and 100 breast in short course, and then similar cuts in the 50 and 100 free in long course.

Heise’s Top Times

  • 50y free – 21.18
  • 100y free – 45.43
  • 100y breast – 57.47
  • 50m free – 24.15
  • 100m free 52.25

At last year’s Michigan Div. 1 HS Champs, Heise set a Div. 1 state record in the 200 free relay with his teammates on Ann Arbor Pioneer. He split a 20.67, and is the the fastest returning member of the relay this season. Heise also placed 4th in the 100 free and 6th in the 100 breast at the meet.

Last year, Heise would’ve been the Tar Heels’ 7th best 100 breaststroker and 10th best 100 freestyler. UNC has a stacked senior class, and with it graduating after this season, they will lose their top sprint freestyler Sam Lewis and their top breaststroker Kurt Wohlrab.

Heise isn’t ready to score at the ACC level yet, but he’ll add depth in areas that the Tar Heels will be missing some top guys in next year.

UNC’s additions for next fall include our #8 ranked Greg BrocatoBrendan Feehery, and Graham Weaver.
