Alex Shackell on 207.3 200 Fly: “Finally feel like I actually belong again”

2026 Pro Swim Series – Indianapolis

Video captured by Anya Pelshaw.

Paris Olympian Alex Shackell made a long-course splash in her home state, taking the win at the Indianapolis Pro Swim in the 200 Fly last weekend. Shackell swam to a 2:07.3, nearing her PB after coming off a 3-week altitude training camp at the Olympic training center. Shackell said it felt good to get down near her PB once again, giving the feeling that “finally feel like I actually belong again”.

Shackell also discussed what her split between training at Carmel Swim Club and Indiana University looks like during the summer, noting that she’s spent more time at Carmel, but some of her IU teammates have come down to train with her there as well.

Yeah, it is, especially since IU has a history of making swimmers faster, and they normally perform well in long course.

I would think the training competition, Peplowski, Clark, etc. would also be appealing, but who knows, maybe she’ll prove us wrong and drop time this summer.

Yes it’s very strange. Especially when she said great team bonding at training camp… team bonding with her club team? I guess that’s what is working for her it’s just bizarre.

I think she was with the more prominent IU swimmers at the training camp. They were at the OTC

Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Forrest Whitaker as Charles Jefferson. “What do you mean he lives here? I thought they just flew him in for games.” Does she actually attend classes on campus? Or does a couple of online classes to be eligible? Being part of a school team and having a separate raining regime seems wrong to me. IU has a great coach and program, does the program at IU have any say in her training?
