Texas 6A State Runner-Up Riley Potter Stays In-State With Commitment to TCU for Fall of 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Katy Aquatics’ and Fulshear, Texas native Riley Potter has committed to Texas Christian University as a member of the 2026 recruiting class.

Potter wrote the following regarding his commitment:

I am extremely excited and honored to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Texas Christian University! I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout this process especially Coach Bailey, Coach Haire, Coach Val, Coach Christian , my family, friends, and teammates. Also a huge thank you to Coach Heckman for this opportunity! Go Frogs!! 😈🐸

Back in February, at the UIL 6A State Championships, while representing Jordan High School in Katy, Potter secured a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly in 48.41, which was one of two finals that he would make at these championships; he also turned in a 6th place finish in the 100 back in 49.65. Two weeks before that meet, Potter picked up wins in both events at the UIL Region 5-6A Championships, clocking 48.34 in the 100 fly and 49.54 in the 100 back, both of which marked new career bests that still stand today.

Potter swam his fastest 500 free at the 2025 UIL Region 5-6A Championship, touching in 4:34.57. That same calendar year, he swam best times in the 200 free (1:41.69), 200 back (1:50.62), and 200 fly (1:50.30).

Best Times SCY:

  • 100 Fly: 48.34
  • 200 Fly: 1:50.30
  • 100 Back: 49.54
  • 200 Back: 1:50.62
  • 200 Free: 1:41.69
  • 500 Free: 4:34.57

The TCU men finished 4th out of seven teams at the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships last season, though only 388 points came from individual swimming performances, the 2nd fewest of all teams at the meet.

Based on Potter’s best times, he would have finished 30th in the 100 back, and 34th in both the 100 fly and the 500 free.

Potter’s long-sprint/mid-distance skill set is pretty diverse, with three solid stroke options that are not too terribly far outside of scoring range at Big 12s.

He could also be a viable option for some relays, as he holds a best 50 back leadoff time of 22.95, which could be a useful tool in the future if needed.

TCU really hammered home the diving last season, scoring the 2nd most points of any team at the Big 12s, but the individual swimming could be the difference between a top-three team finish and another year on the outside looking in.

Potter joins Michael Morris, Gabe Bosler-Kilmer, Thomas Bradac, and Lincoln Hoffmann in the incoming class of the Horned Frogs.
