McHugh, Amaltdinov Named Big Ten Men’s Co-Swimmers of the Week

Ohio State’s Matt McHugh and Purdue’s Marat Amaltdinov were named Big Ten Co-Swimmers of the Week. Amaltdinov swept the breaststroke events at the Purdue Invite, clocking a 53.87 in the 100 and a 1:54.61 in the 200. McHugh swam his way into the national top 10 with his 46.81 100 fly at the Ohio State Invite.

Co-Swimmers of the Week
Matt McHugh, Ohio State
Jr. – West Bend, Wis. – West Bend
• Recorded NCAA provisional qualifying times in each of his individual events at the Ohio State Invitational, including the 50-yard freestyle (20.16), 100-yard butterfly (46.81), 100-yard backstroke (46.97) and 100-yard freestyle (43.88)
• Contributed to two second-place marks in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:19.34) and 400-yard freestyle relay (2:56.31)
• Time in the 100-yard butterfly currently ranks ninth in the nation
• Earns his first career Swimmer of the Week honor
• Last Ohio State Swimmer of the Week: Josh Fleagle (Feb. 3, 2015)

Marat Amaltdinov, Purdue
So. – Orenburg, Russia – Moscow Olympic Reserve N3
• Collected four first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (53.87), 200-yard breaststroke (1:54.61), 200-yard medley relay (1:27.97) and 400-yard medley relay (3:14.38), and added a fifth-place mark in the 200-yard individual medley (1:48.82) at the Purdue Invitational
• Recorded NCAA provisional qualifying times in all of his individual events, while earning personal-best times in the breaststroke events and a pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke
• Time in the 200-yard breaststroke currently ranks fourth in the nation
• Earns his second career Swimmer of the Week honor

Diver of the Week
Colin Zeng, Ohio State
So. – Fujian, China
• Swept the diving events at the Ohio State Invitational, scoring 425.93 points in the one-meter event, 462.08 points in three-meter diving and 477.30 points on platform
• Recorded NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks and Ohio State Invitational records in all three diving events
• Earns his second career Diver of the Week honor
• Last Ohio State Diver of the Week: Colin Zeng (Nov. 18, 2015)

Freshman of the Week
Joe Cifelli, Purdue
Fr. – Crown Point, Ind. – Marian Catholic
• Swept the one- and three-meter diving events at the Purdue Invitational
• Posted season best scores of 398.45 on the one meter and 439.70 on the three meter, recording NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both events
• Earns his third Freshman of the Week honor
• Last Purdue Freshman of the Week: Joe Cifelli (Nov. 11, 2015)
