MILWAUKEE—In its first road dual meet of the season, the UIC swimming and diving program faced off against Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon. The women’s team earned its third consecutive dual meet victory over the Panthers (161.5–138.5), while the men’s team fell short (203–94).
The Flames collected a dozen first place finishes amidst over 40 third place finishes throughout the meet. On the diving board, the Flames had four season-best scores and one lifetime best.
COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH ASHLEY DELL
“I’m so proud of the way the team competed at our first away meet today. The women haven’t won at Milwaukee in at least 15 years or so. So, for them to walk away with the win was amazing! Our men gave it everything they had but it’s hard to compete with a team who all wore tech suits. I’m excited for a few weeks of good training before our mid-season invite!”
COMMENT FROM ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH/ HEAD DIVING COACH SUSAN BROMBERG
“The divers did really well today. We had four season-best scores with Kerry-Leigh Morrison, Kathryn Kleczka, Ava Molina and Bruno Carillo in the one-meter diving events. Christian Curtis even had a lifetime best on the three-meter diving board. Kerry-Leigh won both women’s events and also got her one-meter zone cut. Christian had another great day, winning both of events, collecting zone cuts in both events.

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee swimming & diving teams were back in action in the Klotsche Natatorium against UIC on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers and Flames were in a tight battle all afternoon, but the Black & Gold fell in the end, 161.5-138.5.
“We highlighted this meet at the beginning,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “We knew this was the fastest team that we would face during the dual meet season, and we wanted to give them our best effort.”
“Going into the meet we talked as a team on what would happen when we were pushed,” added Clements. “What do we do when someone is ahead of us, pushing us, chasing us down, and throughout the meet it was apparent that those scenarios only made us better.”
Gabrielle LePine was a standout for the Panthers, landing on the podium four times including three first-place finishes. LePine touched the wall first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.76), the 200 Breaststroke (2:25.25), and as a member of the 200 Medley Relay team. Her second-place finish came in the 200 Free Relay, which featured Christiana Brooks, Noelle Bryan, and Kalli Stark.
Brooks shined in the pool, also receiving a spot on the podium four separate times at the meet. In the 50 Freestyle, Brooks recorded a first-place finish clocking a time of 24.18. Her other victory came in the 200 Medley Relay alongside Mara Freeman, LePine, and Maddi Hayashi.
Hayashi has become a staple on the podium, grabbing gold medals in the 100 Fly (56.59) and 200 Medley Relay. Freeman also secured two first-place finishes in the 100 Backstroke (nabbing a season-best time) and the 200 Medley Relay.
“We swam our races, and we swam them the way we wanted to. That meet sets us up for a lot of success at our mid-season meet in Indy,” Clements concluded.
