Kaii Winkler Breaks Steffen Deibler’s German National Record With 50.92 100 Butterfly

2026 Indianapolis Pro Series

Men’s 100 Butterfly

Top 8:

  1. Ilya Kharun (SUN) – 50.61
  2. Kaii Winkler (NCS) – 50.92
  3. Dare Rose (SCAR) – 52.74
  4. Thomas Heilman (CA-Y) – 51.94
  5. Dylan Carter (AZFL) – 52.15)
  6. Maxim Skazobtsov (TAC) – 52.49
  7. Ole Eidam (MICH) – 52.64
  8. Matthew Klinge (OSU) – 53.56

Kaii Winkler swam to a new German National Record in the men’s 100 butterfly on Thursday night, touching in a 50.92 for 2nd behind Ilya Kharun’s 50.61. Winkler broke the previous record of a 51.19 set by Steffen Deibler back at the 2013 German Championships.

The record had stood as the 2nd oldest remaining individual record on the men’s side in long course, only sitting behind Paul Biedermann‘s 1:42.00 200 free from the 2009 World Championships that still sits as the World Record.

Split Comparison

Winkler Deibler
50 23.62 23.86
100 27.3 27.33
50.92 51.19

Winkler was faster than Deibler was on both 50’s, although the first 50 saw a greater difference. Winkler dropped over half a second off his previous lifetime best of a 51.51 that he swam at the US Open back in December as well as at US Olympic Trials back in 2024.

The swim marks Winkler’s first individual German National Record as he has previously been a member of the record setting SCM Men’s 4×200 free relay from the 2024 World Championships. Winkler swam at 2024 US Olympic Trials and then represented Germany at the 2024 Paris Olympics as he has dual citizenship.

I thought 52.27 Helge Meeuw 100 back record (crazy time) dated 2009 was individual instead is relay time. Even Glania 200back went down few months ago. Germany is slowly rising again?

Had a feeling the record was on watch especially after his pb in the 1 back and then missing his 1 fly pb in prelims by .01 not too shocking he took the record down but definitely surprised he went sub 51

To me surprise performances of the meet…..in events I never thought of him being ELITE in. Now he is. I would imagine lots of American guys are happy that he is repping Germany!

Incredible progression in the 50/100 back and 100 fly. Hopefully this year he will Peak at a Major championship. In the past he was much Slower at the meet he was supposed to peak.
Maybe he also can challenge the german records in the 50 free (21.8) and 100 free (47.8).
Germany desperately needs a competitive backstroker.
With his versatility (50/100 back/fly, 50/100/200 free, possibly 200 IM) he should be ranked very high in Swimswam‘s top 100 Ranking at the end of the year.

Steffen Deibler…man what a throw back. Still remember how he sprinted that first 100 on the 200 fly during 2012 Olympics

Steffen Deibler

Haven’t heard this name in a long time. Good for Kaii. Real talent and real deal.

A bit strange to see him setting PBs at this meet, considering the focus meet for him this summer should be the Europeans, which he has already qualified for. Maybe he will drop more time there?
