Jude Burkhart Wins 9 Events, Adds To Top Times Nationally At NBAC Mid Summer Classic

It was the Jude Burkhart show at his home pool during the North Baltimore Aquatic Club Summer Classic.

The 13-year-old Burkhart won nine events, setting personal bests in seven of them. The events he set personal bests in were the 100 free (54.01), 200 free (1:58.63), 100 back (1:01.48), 200 back (2:12.15), 200 breast (2:34.50), 200 IM (2:13.45) and 400 IM (4:39.15). He also won the 400 free (4:11.66) and 100 fly (59.08).

Among 13-year-old boys this season, Burkhart owns the fastest times in the 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 100 fly and 400 IM. He owns the second-fastest time in the 200 back and the third-fastest times in the 100 back and 200 IM.

Last year as a 12-year-old, Burkhart set a National Age Group Record in the 800 freestyle with a time of 8:48.44.

In the team competition, York YMCA won the combined title, Susquehanna Valley Aquatic Club took the girls’ crown while Southern Maryland Aquatics won the boys’ event.

Other individual standouts were:

  • Lillie Dirito, a 12-year-old from York YMCA, won seven events, topping the field in the 50 free (personal best 29.38), 100 free (personal best 1:03.56), 100 back (1:11.92), 200 back (personal best 2:30.73), 100 fly (1:10.46), 200 IM (personal best 2:35.03) and 400 IM (personal best 5:33.07). She also swam a personal best in the 100 breast (1:28.10) to finish 2nd. Her time in the 400 IM bested her old previous best (5:46.80) by more than 13 seconds, while her time in the 100 breast topped her previous best time (1:30.76) by 2.66 seconds.
  • Willa Kulp, 13, of North Baltimore Aquatic Club, won four events. She swam personal best times to top the field in the 100 free (1:00.78), 100 back (1:07.54) and 200 back (2:25.49), and added a win in the 400 free (4:35.92). Kulp swam a personal best time of 28.66 to finish 2nd in the 50 free.
  • Daniel Branon, a 16-year-old from North Baltimore Aquatic Club, won six events. He swam personal bests to take the 200 back (2:08.54), 100 breast (1:06.87), 200 breast (2:27.04) and the 200 IM (2:06.50). Branon also won the 100 fly (55.97) and 200 fly (2:03.78). Branon’s time in the 200 back beat his previous personal best (2:13.74) by 5.20 seconds. Among 16-year-old boys this season, he has the fourth-fastest time in the 200 fly and the 14th-fastest in the 200 IM.
  • Shannon Conway, a 16-year-old from North Baltimore Aquatic Club, won events. She swam a personal best time of 2:18.29 to take the 200 fly, and also was 1st in the 100 free (58.93), 200 free (2:05.16), 400 free (4:26.94) and 100 fly (1:01.53). Her time in the 200 fly beat her previous personal best (2:21.22) by nearly 3 seconds.
  • Kyan Siri, a 15-year-old from North Baltimore Aquatic Club, won the 200 free (1:56.67) and 400 free (4:08.93) in personal best times. He also was 2nd in the 50 free (24.98) and 3rd in the 200 IM (2:10.04), both in personal best times.
