Japan’s Takumi Mori Clocks WUGS Record In Men’s 200 IM

2025 World University Games

Multiple World University Games Records fell on day three of the competition, including in the men’s 200m IM event at the hands of Japanese athlete Takumi Mori.

Mori stopped the clock at a mighty time of 1:57.24 to claim the gold, beating the field by over a second in the process.

American Mitchell Schott was next to the wall in 1:58.25 followed by fellow Japanese teammate Yuta Watanabe who claimed the 3rd seed in 1:58.54.

As for Mori, he established a new WUGS Record with tonight’s result. His pack-leading 1:57.24 overtook the former WUGS benchmark of 1:57.35, Japanese Olympic champion Kosuke Hagino put on the books in 2017.

Entering this competition, Mori’s lifetime best in the 200m IM rested at the 1:57.71 he logged at the 2024 Japan Open. That means tonight’s outing hacked about half a second off to have him check in as Japan’s 7th-best performer of all time in this men’s 2IM event.

On the season, Mori now ranks as the 9th fastest performer on the planet.
