Jack Flanagan Commits to Tennessee After Starting Club Swimming in 2019

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Nashville Aquatic Club’s Jack Flanagan has committed to the nearby University of Tennessee for this coming season. He’s a senior at Montgomery Bell Academy.

I’m super excited to announce my commitment to swim at the University of Tennessee. It is a perfect fit for me in all aspects. Go Vols!

  • 200 free – 1:41.41
  • 100 fly – 51.01

Flanagan is a remarkable case; he only swam during the Tennessee high school season in 2018 and 2019, then in 2019 he began to train with a club year-round for the first time. He began racing club first with Ensworth Aquatics, and he’s since moved to NAC, switching over last summer.

His first full meet with club training under his belt was in September 2019, where he went 22.9/49.6/1:51.9 in the 50/100/200 free. By December, he’d gotten down to 21.7/47.2, then he went 21.6/46.9 in January 2020 and 21.4/46.2 in February 2020. Coming out of the first months of lockdown due to COVID-19, Flanagan dropped to 21.2/46.1 in August 2020. He hit a 21.0/45.6 in November, then clocked a 20.99 in the 50 free in December.

In the new year, he went 20.95/44.83 in January before landing on his current bests (20.44/44.77) at the Southeastern LSC Championships in March.

At the 2020 Tennessee HS State (TISCA) Championships, Flanagan finished eighth in the 100 free and ninth in the 200 free. The 2021 meet is coming up this weekend, and Flanagan could challenge for state titles.

Flanagan joins Jack Stelter, Gus Rothrock and Griffin Hadley in Tennessee’s sprinter-heavy class of 2025.
