Carmel’s Gus Rothrock (2021) to Join Sister Trude at Tennessee

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Carmel, Indiana’s Gus Rothrock (“Augustus Rothrock” to his parents) has verbally committed to the University of Tennessee for 2021-22. He will overlap one year with his sister Trude Rothrock, currently a sophomore on the Lady Vols’ roster.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee. I’m grateful to my family, friends, and coaches for their unwavering support throughout my journey. Can’t wait to be a Vol! 🍊🍊🍊”

Rothrock is the second verbal commit to the Tennessee class of 2025; he will join Griffin Hadley with whom he is already a teammate at both Carmel High School and Carmel Swim Club. Rothrock was runner-up in both the 200 free (1:39.07) and 500 free (4:31.02) as a sophomore at the 2019 Indiana High School State Championships. He further contributed to Carmel’s state title with legs on the winning 4×50 free (20.72) and 4×100 free (46.07) relays.

Rothrock is coming off a strong summer season, culminating at Speedo Junior Nationals where he scored PBs in the 200m free (1:52.60), 200m fly (2:02.98), 200m IM (2:06.48), and 400m IM (4:28.26). He was a finalist in the four events and his times were all Winter U.S. Open standards. He is also a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 400m free and 100m fly and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 1500m free. Last December, he competed at Winter Juniors East in the 200/500/1650 free and 400 IM. He went lifetime bests in the 500 and the mile, and in the 50/100 back while leading off CSC’s two medley relays.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 IM – 1:51.26
  • 400 IM – 3:57.53
  • 200 free – 1:39.06
  • 500 free – 4:30.56
  • 1650 free – 15:50.15
  • 200 back – 1:51.16
  • 200 fly – 1:53.37

Rothrock’s versatility, and the fact that he has another two years before he’ll begin in Knoxville, mean that he will have a number of ways to be useful to the Vols. It took 1:46.47/ 3:50.06 in the 200/400 IM and 1:36.25/4:21.37/15:32.34 in the 200/500/1650 free to score at 2019 SEC Championships.

Agree but plethora will not get it done. We need some studs who can score individually at NCAAs or we will be out of the top 20!!!!
