Iowa State Champion Teagen Renze Signs With Ohio State For Fall 2026

Teagen Renze from Carroll, Iowa has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Ohio State beginning in fall 2026.

Renze competes for Cyclone Swim Club out of Ames, Iowa and most recently competed at the Iowa Swimming Short Course Championships at the end of February. There he swam to state titles in the 50 and 100 backstrokes. He won the 50 in a 22.53 and the 100 in a 48.49. His 100 back was a best time by 0.98 seconds. He also had numerous 2nd place finishes, including a lifetime best 44.27 100 free and a lifetime best 49.29 100 fly.

He is currently in his senior year at Carroll Community High School. In the middle of February, he swam to a Iowa Boys High School state title in the 200 free as he swam a best time 1:37.20. He also was 3rd in the 100 free in a 44.39.

Renze’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 free: 1:37.20
  • 100 free: 44.27
  • 50 free: 20.27
  • 100 back: 48.49
  • 200 back: 1:49.33
  • 100 fly: 49.29

The Ohio State men finished 3rd out of nine teams at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. Tristan Jankovics led the team with 70 individual points. The Ohio State men won the Big Ten title in the 800 free relay and went on to finish 3rd in the event at the 2026 NCAA Championships last week.

Based on his best times, Renze is not far off what it took to final at the 2026 Big Ten Championships as it took a 43.71 in the 100 free and a 1:35.63 in the 200 free. The sprint freestyles were Ohio State’s top scoring events at Big Tens as they scored 82 points in the 50 free, 77 in the 100 free, and 73.5 in the 200 free.

Renze will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2030 along with Sawyer Davis and Mattaus Rammel.
