Hubert Kos set his second backstroke World Record of the final stop of the World Cup here in Toronto, He took a dominant win in 48.16, touching over a second ahead of Kacper Stokowski as he claimed the ‘Triple Triple’ – winning all three backstroke events at all three stops of this World Cup.
Kos was out in a stunning 23.07 at the halfway mark, 0.38 seconds under Coleman Stewart’s World Record pace, and a time that would have been good enough for 5th in the individual 50 last night. He had the fastest second 50 in the field as well, splitting 25.09 coming home to stay ahead of Stewart’s pace.
Kos hacked six-tenths of a second off his old Hungarian Record of 48.78, set just last week. He was well under the pace of both records through the first 50.

He now sits at #1 in the overall standings with an unassailable lead, and will be the overall men’s champion. He took home the $10,000 Triple Crown bonus in this event, as well as an additional $10,000 for his World Record.

As Aaron dominated backs early in the century, Kos is eating competition.
Soon, he will own them all – both meters’ and yards.
He was awesome, but he did luck out a little by Coetze having visa issues (although I think he probably would have smoked him in SCM either way).
His underwaters have been a work of art throughout this series.
He swam the smart way: going out fast. The only way to swim SCM, there is nowhere to backhalf (unlike LCM).
To me, it’s surprising that the difference between the back 100 WR and freestyle 100m WR is only 1.7 seconds.
100 free is 44.84
When Coleman broke the WR it was so random, sad to see it go
Will he be in Poland in December for the European Championships?
He is not planning to compete at the shourt course Europeans – he will instead swim at the US Open – as far as I know.
What a World Cup run from Kos! Wow. Please, Hubi and Bob, set your sights on that supersuit record in the 200 LCM backstroke. Please please please.
I might be able to run 100m that fast. But I doubt it…
