Regan Smith swam to a new American Record en route to a 2nd place finish in the women’s 200 backstroke with a 1:57.86. That dropped 0.05 seconds off her own record of a 1:57.91 that she swam just last week at the World Cup stop in Westmont.

Smith was faster today on the first 100 of her race, flipping under Kaylee McKeown‘s World Record pace that McKeown swam last week in her win. Smith was under McKeown’s old World Record of a 1:57.87 but McKeown lowered that record to a 1:57.33 in her win. Smith had the lead through the first 100 of the race.

Smith has now been sub-2:00 in the event five times. Only McKeown has been under 2:00 more as she has been under that mark six times.
