Maybe a Racing Spectacle isn’t the best way to advertise the swimming world. A short documentary on training, the demand and difficulty of competing in a sport that doesn’t pay. Thats widely international making limited scholarships so hard to obtain.
The mind blowing training these athletes do and what they’re capable in practice is far more interesting than what they can do at a meet.

I didn’t get to go to Napa this year, but I just watched Bob’s Coaching Essentials video and he described some of the different personalities he has in his group. Regan, McIntosh, Simone, Marchand, Hubert, and Shaine. I thought Shaine’s was the most interesting one as he said he was fully ready to give Shaine the boot once he got to Texas as he wasn’t going to tolerate someone missing practice. He met with Shaine talked about how he can’t be missing practice if he wants to stay, Shaine agreed that it was a fair thought, then Bob wanted to start him off with just 5 afternoons, Shaine said that was too little and they agreed to an 8 practice… Read more »

No sorry, that’s the only part I could find of either of his talks that wouldn’t require paying.

Says he thought Regan was the most serious person he has ever coached in a practice but then Summer showed up. If I remember right, he said he can make Regan laugh in practice but he says Summer doesn’t laugh in workouts. Says Hubert was born with a silver spoon in his mouth so he gets real tough on him, but that there are guys on the team he would never yell at (Nate Germonprez), and says Marchand is the most laid back swimmer (which I think we already knew)

I wonder what his event lineup for NCAAs will be.100/200 back I’d imagine are a lock. But does he do the 200 back/200 IM double or does he skip the 200 IM and do something like the 100 fly?

He should have no problem doing the 40 pointer with the 200IM/back double, but I reckon he chooses the 400IM instead of the 200IM.

400 IM over 100 fly? That would surprise me ngl

I mean… he has swum the 400IM at NCAAs before, unlike the 100 fly. Also, idk how much freedom he has in deciding his own line-up but it’s not like Texas will need the few extra points he could potentially pick up if he swims the 100 fly (in which UT has no other realistic final contenders as of right now), whereas if he wants to get the triple win again he has a better chance in the 400IM than the 100 fly. He was 3:35.8 in it in November 2023, the last time he swam it – if we extrapolate from his 200IM improvement he should be somewhere around 3:32-3:33 right now – only within reach for Maurer, who… Read more »

I’ve been trying to figure out the lineup. 400 IM would have Maurer/Nelson/Lucas/Johnston and 100 fly would have Peck/Gould/Masiuk as people who make NCAAs in my opinion, not scorers necessarily. I wanna see Hubert go 200 back for obvious reasons but also stick to the 200 IM. I wanna see how close Texas can get to 6 up with Kos/Nelson/Modglin/Germonprez/McKean/Taylor

I think Baylor Nelson will also be around 3:33.
