Futures Qualifier Sera Hanagan Verbally Commits to Fresno State

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Scottsdale Aquatics Club’s Sera Hanagan has verbally committed to swim at Fresno State University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. Hanagan is a distance freestyler and IMer from Cave Creek, AZ who is beginning her senior year at Cactus Shadow High School.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Fresno State! Thank you to all my coaches, teammates and family who have helped me reach this point. Go Bulldogs!!”

In November, Hanagan competed at the 2019 Arizona HS Girls Division II State Championships. The high school junior swam the 200 IM and the 500 free, qualifying for the A-final in each event. She was seeded 4th after the prelims heats of the 200 IM, going a personal best time of 2:07.52. In finals, she was able to come from behind Christina Williams of Catalina Foothills High School, out-touching her for the bronze medal. Hanagan’s teammate Mady Bachmeier earned the silver medal. Hanagan also made it back into the A-final in the 500 free, after touching 5th in prelims (5:07.57). She finished 7th overall.

Hanagan was a part of the Cactus Shadow 200 free and 400 free relays that both took second place. She then went on to swim at the Meet of Championships in the 200 IM and the relays, finishing 7th in the IM, 4th in the 200 free relay, and 6th in the 400 free relay.

Hanagan was Cactus Shadows girls’ MVP as a freshman.

She most recently competed at the Arizona Senior Open Championships. She was a B-finalist in 200 IM and 500 free and an A-finalist in the 400 IM. She placed 4th in the 1000 free and 3rd in the 1650 free.

Top SCY Times:

  • 500 free – 5:03.49
  • 1000 free – 10:20.65
  • 1650 free – 17:19.72
  • 200 IM – 2:07.52
  • 400 IM – 4:28.70

Hanagan’s top times would have made her eligible to score points for the Bulldogs at the 2020 Mountain West Conference Championships in the 400 IM and the 1650 free. Her 1000 free would have been Fresno State’s second-fastest this season behind Darina Khisiamova, while her 1650 would have been third behind Khisiamova and Eydis Osk Kolbeinsdottir.
