For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Oswego Co-op’s Mackenize Lipnick has announced her decision to swim at Cleveland State University beginning in the fall of 2021. Lipnick is a distance freestyler who swims for Delta Aquatics.

“I am beyond excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my academic and swimming career at Cleveland State University!!! I’d like to thank my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and teachers for helping me through this process and for their continued support. Can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing program & team! #govikings”

In November, Lipnick represented Delta Aquatics at the 23rd Annual Fox Fall Classic. She took the top spot in the 100, 200, 500, 1000 free. Lipnick’s 500 time of 4:59.02 was 12 seconds faster than the swimmer, while her 200 free (1:55.96), placed her 4 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She dropped 16.8 seconds from her entry time in the 1000 free to secure the top spot.

Additionally, she touched second in the 50 free, only 0.66 seconds behind the top finisher, Mackenzie Miller. She also finished second in the 200 IM, racing to try to out-touch Stephanie Schweihs in the final 50.  Schweihs was able to hold Lipnick off by 0.12 seconds.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 free – 1:55.96
  • 500 free – 4:59.02
  • 1000 free – 10:28.59
  • 1650 free – 17:41.47

The Cleveland State University women’s team was runner-up to Oakland University at the 2020 Horizon League Championships. Some of their top swims include Gabriella Marinelli‘s silver medal in the 200 free, Agnes Bahr‘s silver medal in the 400 IM, as well as the silver and three bronze medals their earned for the 400 medley relay and the 200, 400, and 800 free relays.

Lipnick’s top times would have made her the team’s third-fastest 500 and 1000 freestyler in the 2019-2020 season behind Lexie Kostelnik and Rachel Contich. She would have been the team’s fourth-fastest in the 1650 behind Kostelnik, Contich, and Hannah Cooper.
