Christmas has come early for the University of Georgia women’s swim team. Earlier today SwimSwam’s #1 recruit in the Class of 2021, Courtney Harnish, verbally committed to the Bulldogs, and now Kayla Tennant has announced her verbal as well. In addition to Harnish and Donna Blaum, Tennant is the third verbal for the defending NCAA champions of the weekend.

Kayla told SwimSwam, “I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for the University of Georgia. I can’t wait to be a part of such an awesome team. UGA’s stellar academics and phenomenal swim program will help me reach my goals in the classroom, the pool, and in life. I want thank my parents and coaches for always supporting me along the way. Go DAWGS!!!”

Tennant announced her verbal commitment via her Twitter and Instagram accounts. Her tweet is below:

Tennant is a senior at Gulf Coast High School in Naples, Florida, and swims for T2 Aquatics under Paul Yetter.  She is a six-time FHSAA 3A State Champion, a three-time High School All-American and a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.  She has also qualified for Summer Junior Nationals.

Her top short course times are:

Event (SCY) Time
100 Fly 54.09
200 Fly 2:02.48
200 IM 2:04.47
50 Free 24.27
100 Free  52.15
200 Free  1:50.25

As a middle distance freestyle, butterfly and IM specialist, Tennant will feel right at home in Athens, Georgia. She will have no shortage of training partners with freestylers like Shauna Lee, Jordan Stout and Stephanie Peters; butterfliers Megan Kingsley, Chelsea Britt, Veronica Burchill and Caitlin Casazza; and swimmers who can swim every event under the sun like Kylie Stewart, Meaghan Raab and Harnish.

Tennant’s top times would have ranked her 6th in the 100 Fly, 8th in the 200 Free and 9th in the 200 IM on Georgia’s list of top performers for 2015-2016. In verbally committing to the Bulldogs, Tennant joins Harnish, Blaum, Sammie Burchill, Regan Barney, Emmaline Peterson and Maddie Wallis.
