ECU Sweeps Women’s Weekly American Swimming And Diving Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — East Carolina junior Bailie Monahan and sophomore Ashley Sams are the winners of this week’s American Athletic Conference women’s swimming and diving awards.

Monahan was named American Female Swimmer of the Week for the second time after she won two individual events and one relay in the Pirates’ 185-110 dual-meet win against Old Dominion. She set a Minges Natatorium record in the 200 butterfly as she touched the wall in 2:00.61. She added an individual win in the 200 individual medley (2:05.28) and swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200 medley relay, which finished in 1:45.47.

Sams took Female Diver of the Week accolades for the first time as she took first and second in the diving events in the dual win against Old Dominion. She won on the three-meter board with a score of 261.45 points and claimed second on the one-meter board with 252.38 points.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24, at UMBC.
