Colgate Women, Lafayette Men Pickup Wins In Split Dual

EASTON, Pa. – Colgate Women’s Swimming and Diving won 13 events and racked up 27 podium finishes in a dominant 174-135 victory over Lafayette on Saturday in Patriot League action. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

MG King paced the Raiders with three victories in a stellar performance. Allie PhillipsAudrey Collins, and Lucy Art each tallied a pair of gold finishes, while Katie Miller and Paige Fisher earned one apiece. Colgate’s 200 Medley and 200 Free relay teams also captured gold to highlight the victory. 

Collins headlined the day with a program-record time of 59.21 to grab gold in the 100 IM, which was the penultimate event of the meet and her second win of the day. She also secured first place in the 100 Breast, clocking in with a time of 1:06.00. 

King’s massive performance featured three victories, starting with the 1000 Free where they touched the wall in 10:49.29 – more than 13 seconds faster than their nearest opponent. King continued with a 59.01 first-place time in the 100 Back, before securing their third win in the 200 Back (2:05.97). 

Phillips’ big day commenced with a first-place finish in the 200 Fly, turning in a time of 2:10.98 which was nearly two seconds faster than her nearest opponent. She picked up where she left off in the 100 Fly, securing her second win of the meet with a first-place time of 58.31. 

Art was dominant in the freestyle, securing first-place in the 50 Free (24.73) and 100 Free (53.69) for back-to-back gold finishes. Miller won the 200 Free with a time of 1:56.10, while Fisher found success in the 200 Breast with a first-place time of 2:23.90. 

Phillips, Regan Hau, Collins and Art kicked off the meet with gold in the 200 Medley Relay, finishing with a time of 1:47.62. The victory was capped off with a victory in the 200 Free Relay, led by Phillips, Heather O’Day, Miller, and Art, who took gold with a time of 1:37.71.

Colgate is back in action Friday, Nov. 7, when the Raiders take on Le Moyne. The divers will be competing in Hamilton, while the swimmers will compete against the Dolphins in Syracuse. Both start times are 5 p.m.

EASTON, Pa. – The Colgate men’s swimming and diving team totaled five first-place finishes and found the podium 19 times in a 185-109 defeat at Lafayette on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colgate saw four different swimmers capture gold in individual events. David Brophy secured the top spot in the 200 Free with a time of 1:42.92, just under a second faster than his closest competitor. Matthew Szypula had a big day in the 200 Back, clocking in with a first-place time of 1:57.48 to take gold.

Michael Granin (200 Breast) and Gavin Perez (100 IM) each secured gold with respective times of 2:15.26 and 56.13, raising Colgate’s total individual victories to four on the day. 

Colgate’s 200 Free Relay closed out the day with Colgate’s fifth overall victory, touching the wall with a first-place time of 1:26.83 – more than four seconds faster than their second team led by Drew HicksTimothy BrooksBen Dudley, and Scott Pejic (1:30.89) who took silver.

EASTON, Pa. – The Leopards hosted Colgate for their first home meet of the season at Weinstein Natatorium on Saturday afternoon, earning a total of 15 wins and a broken pool record.

The men’s team of freshmen Leo FreinGregory Yukhvid and Augustus Sefcik and junior Alexander Reihl kicked off the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:36.31.

Yukhvid secured an individual win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.84. Freshman Justin Tucker snagged victories in both the 200-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle with times of 1:55.14 and 4:44.32, respectively. Sefcik reeled in first in the 100 free, finishing with a time of 47.66.

Senior Tommy Weber swam the 50 free in 21.72, garnering a first-place finish and junior Alexander Zoldan enjoyed the victory in the 100 free with a final time of 10:00.66. Reihl and Frein each achieved wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.66) and 100-yard backstroke (53.21), respectively.

Diver Landon Orth broke his own pool record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 309.90, his previous record sitting at 305.18. The junior not only broke the pool record in the 3-meter, but he also claimed first place as well. Classmate Trey Telleen won the 1-meter dive with a score of 274.13.

For the women, freshman Francesca DiGiovanni snagged the victory in the 500 free with a final time of 5:13.87.

Diver Mia Guster took home first place in the 1-meter dive with a 249.98 score. The junior earned a second victory in the 3-meter, scoring 244.95. Senior Katie Hensell placed second in the 1-and 3-meter dives (232.95, 244.80), respectively.

The men finished with a victory, topping the Raiders 185-109, while the Leopard women fell 174-125.

“This was a great first home meet for our first years and an awesome way to kick off our home meet season. It’s that fun time of year when the student-athletes finally start to see their hard work pay off in competition,” said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “Everything elevates from here, it should be a really great next two weeks of practice before our next competition.”

“We couldn’t be more proud of the team that we got to see compete today and we look forward to seeing how they continue to grow and excel throughout the rest of the season,” Dailey continued.

The Maroon and White will head to Navy for a quad meet on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m.
