LOS ANGELES, CA — The California Baptist University dive team continued its season this weekend at the Bruin Diving Invitational, hosted by UCLA. The three-day meet was highlighted by CBU’s Mario Del Valle, who swept three events.
Del Valle took first place in 1m, 3m, and platform diving. Del Valle finished 1m with 696.55 points, 3m with 737.45 points, and platform with 729.70 points.
John Angelovic also competed for the CBU men. Angelovic placed seventh in 3m and eighth in 1m. Gael Jimenez placed third in 1m with 598.85 points.

The Lancers will continue their season on January 17 by hosting Grand Canyon at the Lancer Aquatics Center. Saturday’s meet with GCU will be Senior Day. CBU will also be in Riverside the following week to host UC San Diego.

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA diving squad wrapped up the Bruin Diving Invitational on Sunday with the platform dive portion of the competition. Senior Eden Cheng took the top spot in the event to lead the Bruins on Sunday.
Cheng put forth an impressive showing on Sunday, easily winning both the prelims and finals session on platform. After taking the top spot in prelims with a score of 312.70, Cheng averaged 69.26 points per dive en route to a finals score of 346.30. Cheng had dive scores of 75.20 and 73.60 on her third and fifth dives to highlight her impressive performance.
Also competing on the platform on Sunday were Molly Brascia and Laura Fisher. Brascia took 17th overall in prelims with a score of 217.70, while Fisher came in 25th, scoring 196.00 points.
As for day two of the Bruin Diving Invitational on Saturday, UCLA had two divers earn spots in the finals session of the 3m diving competition. Junior Molly Brascia and senior Eden Cheng both earned second sessions after taking sixth and seventh, respectively, in the prelims session.
In the finals session, Cheng climbed all the way to the top spot with a score of 326.40 in finals to take her total tally to 602.60 on the day. Her score of 326.40 was the highest score of any Bruin on 3m so far this season. Brascia also climbed from sixth to second overall, finishing with a total score of 580.80 across the two sessions.
The Bruins also took part in the Bruin Diving Invitational on Friday. Eden Cheng led the way for the Bruins in the 1m competition. The senior finished second in the discipline with an overall score of 580.40.
Cheng and Molly Brascia each qualified for finals in the event, with Cheng taking the top spot in the qualifying session while Brascia took third in qualifying and fourth overall in the finals.
The Bruins also took part in the team diving event on Friday, placing second. The Bruins had six dives as a team and totaled 278.50 points, finishing just behind Hawai’i in first place in the event.
Up Next: UCLA returns to action next weekend, hosting Stanford and Cal at Spieker Aquatics Center. Friday’s duel with Stanford is slated for a 2:00 pm PT start, while Saturday’s meet with Cal will begin at 11:00 am PT.
