WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Kiki Rampersad broke a pool record in her 100-yard butterfly collegiate debut and was a part of two pool relay records as the Boston University women’s swimming & diving team opened its season with a 191-109 win over Holy Cross on Saturday at the Hart Center Pool.

Rampersad swam a 55.68 in the 100 butterfly to set the pool record and post the 10th-fastest time in program history.

She opened the meet by joining classmates Danka NdubuisiHadar Miller and Molly Barber for a pool record time of 1:46.30 in the 200 medley relay. To wrap up the meet, Rampersad and Barber teamed up with fellow first-years Lily Osborn and Ava Coombs to snap the pool record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:33.83.

Four Terriers claimed two wins apiece. Ndubuisi earned two wins in her debut, coming out on top in the 50 free and 200 breast. Sophomore Cambria Jewett won the 200 fly and 200 back while classmate Katie Pestrichelli claimed both distance events (500 & 1000 free). Senior Haley Newman came out on top in the 200 free and 200 IM.

The Terriers will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 18) when they face Bucknell in the home opener. The meet will start at 1:30 p.m.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Tony Ponomarev and sophomore Giovanni Sullo each picked up two wins to pace the Boston University men’s swimming & diving team in a 177-122 victory in the season opener at Holy Cross on Saturday at Hart Center Pool.

Sullo broke a 35-year-old pool record in the 1,000-yard freestyle and also came out on top in the 500 free. Ponomarev won the 200 freestyle and the 200 backstroke while also leading off a 200 medley relay that finished first. Freshman Hugh Harrison earned two wins in his collegiate debut, touching the wall first in the 50 free and 200 IM.

Freshman diver Ethan Wong also had an impressive debut, winning the 3-meter with a zone-cut score of 321.98.

The Terriers will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 18) when they face Bucknell in the home opener. The meet will start at 1:30 p.m.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Courtney Boghosian and sophomore Addie Jenk both had first-place finishes, but the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Boston University 191-109 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1, while the Terriers begin the year at 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Boghosian won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.02.
• Jenk took first in the one-meter diving with a score of 231.60.
• Junior Devin Brindle had a pair of second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.42) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.98).
• Sophomore Ellie Reinhart claimed second place in both the 100-yard backstroke (59.37) and 200-yard individual medley (2:13.58).
• Other Crusaders to finish in second place included junior Kat Anticev (1,000-yard freestyle / 10:56.15), senior Ainsley Nalen (200-yard backstroke / 2:08.09), junior Megan Nelson (200-yard butterfly / 2:10.94) and sophomore Brenna Short (three-meter diving / 252.23).

• Holy Cross will return to action on Friday, Oct. 17, when it plays host to Bucknell at 4 p.m.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Zach Bubonovich placed first in both the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke, but the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Boston University 177-122 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders open the season at 0-1, while the Terriers begin the year at 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Bubonovich won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 57.43 and the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:07.47.
• Freshman Cole Abril took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.70.
• Senior Jack Greiner had a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:52.77.
• Freshman Andrew Villani came in first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.91.
• The Crusaders also won the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the team of sophomore Peter Mottolese, Greiner, junior Will Clark and Abril finishing in a time of 3:09.25.
