Bryant Women Cruise Past Stony Brook, Bulldog Men Earn First Win of Season Over NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. — The Bryant University women’s swimming and diving team defeated Stony Brook, 201-99, in Saturday’s tri-meet hosted by NJIT.

The Bulldogs were off to a hot start in New Jersey with a dominant showing. Bryant opened with an impressive performance in the 200-yard medley relay, as Jacqui Fox, Jocie Niemczyk, Ruby Tonelli, and Marcella Figueroa finished first in 1:44.87.

“Another great day of racing,” Coach Katie Cameron said.

“Our women are on a roll and enjoying the benefits of working hard. Katherine Bailey had an amazing day and was a real team player who dominated in a few new events. Her versatility will be very useful to the team.
we are excited to keep going and seeing what we can do as a team!”

  • Tonelli continued her stellar day by winning both the 200 fly (2:02.33) and 100 fly (54.68).
  • Niemczyk added wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.40) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.41).
  • Katherine Bailey led the distance group with victories in the 1000 free (10:17.98) and 200 free (1:52.20).
  • Fox added another victory in the 100 yard backstroke (56.91).
  • Addison Abreu came in first in the 50 yard free (24.33)
  • Amanda Witkus captured the 200 IM (2:05.57).
  • Makayla Pearce took first in the 500 free (5:02.81).
  • Bryant closed out the meet coming in second the 400 freestyle relay, as Jill Carline, Niemczyk, Witkus, and Hannah King clocked a 3:29.84.
  • Megan Beasley swept the diving events, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions.

The Bulldogs are back in Smithfield on Oct 31. At 5 p.m. to take on Providence. Dive will be at Brown.

NEWARK, N.J. — The Bryant University men’s swimming and diving team earned a 159-139 victory over NJIT on Saturday.

The Bulldogs’ relay squad of Aidan TreneryCalix Hammett, Tim Andrews, and James Misto set started the day with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:32.56).

“Yet another nail bitter, our men have shown they are resilient and will fight to win,” Coach Katie Cameron said.

“Trenery really stepped up to win the 200 IM, it was a great swim from him.  NJIT is a strong squad, our depth really helped us. Chris set pool record on the board.   As a staff we are very proud of the men and their willingness to stay mentally strong and fight!”

  • T. Andrews earned a win in the 100 fly (48.95).
  • Trenery swept the breaststroke events, claiming the 100 breast (56.74) and 200 IM (1:52.42).
  • Misto also claimed first in the 50 yard free (21.15).
  • Arthur Newton earned a victory in the 100 free (46.29) and placed second in the 200 free (1:41.52).
  • Christopher Buonocore won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, setting a new pool  record.

Bryant capped the meet with a strong performance in the 400 free relay, as Newton, Hammett, Andrews, and Misto secured the final win in 3:03.99.

The Bulldogs are back in Smithfield on Oct 31. At 5 p.m. to take on Providence. Dive will be at Brown.

NEWARK, N.J. — Stony Brook swimming & diving faced Bryant on Saturday afternoon for a neutral site matchup in New Jersey, falling to the Bulldogs 201-99.

The Seawolves recorded three events win on the day, with wins coming from Alanna DePintoSara Baxter, and a relay win by Carson KienMichelle VuFrancesca Baber, and DePinto.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • DePinto secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (52.06).
  • Baxter won the 200-yard backstroke event (2:05.38).
  • Kien, Vu, Baber, and DePinto teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:29.46).


UP NEXT
The Seawolves will return to the pool on Saturday, November 15, for their first home meet of the season at University Pool against Siena. Action is set to begin at noon and will stream live on FloCollege.

NEWARK, N.J. – Yonatan Ahdut set the BWEC pool record in the 1,000 freestyle, winning with a time of 9:20.09, but the NJIT swimming and diving team fell to Bryant, 159-139, on Saturday afternoon at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center.

Ahdut also captured the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:32.08.

Mohamed Walid earned victories in the 200 freestyle (1:40.83) and 200 butterfly (1:49.84).

Andrew Cellar swept the backstroke events, winning the 200 backstroke in 1:49.63 — by a five-second margin — and the 100 backstroke in 49.47.

Borys Endle took first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:01.71, finishing five seconds ahead of the field.

Next Up
After a week off, NJIT will host defending America East champion, Binghamton, on Saturday, Nov. 8 at noon at the BWEC.
