The first session of the ASU, Cal, and Stanford meet saw some fast swimming, and multiple times that found their way in the top-10 national rankings for this season.

We have another session of the meet today that will start with the 800 freestyle relay, where the Stanford women are the reigning NCAA Champions, and it will end with the 200 free relay.

The athletes will also swim the 200 breast, 200 back, 50 free, 500 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM.

The meet is being streamed on ACC Network Extra (ESPN+ subscription required), with live results available on Meet Mobile under “ASU and CAL @ Stanford Double Dual Meet.”

800 Free Relay

Women

Stanford led off with Torri Huske who was locked in a battle with Cal’s Mia West through the first 100. West turned first at 49.47 with Huske just behind at 49.67 for the first 100.

As the 3rd 50 progressed, Huske surged ahead, building a nearly one second lead by the end, touching in 1:43.00 to West’s 1:43.83. Huske’s time would have been the 5th fastest time in the country before this weekend. West set a new personal best time, dropping from the 1:45.17 mark she set in February of this year.

Kayla Wilson swam 2nd for Stanford, and Claire Weinstein took over for the Golden Bears. By the 100 mark, Weinstein had made up the difference. She continued to build the lead form there, splitting 1:42.90 to give Cal the lead by about a second over Stanford with Wilson splitting 1:44.26 .

Teagan O’Dell swam the 3rd leg for Cal against Stanford’s Caroline Bricker. O’Dell was out hard, splitting 50.68 on her first 100, to build a strong lead. Bricker began coming back hard, but O’Dell had an excellent final 50 of 26.37 to split 1:43.30 and give Cal a commanding lead going into the final 200. Bricker split 1:44.13 for Stanford.

Ella Cosgrove anchored the relay for the Bears in 1:45.15 to touchin 6:55.18, winning the event by more than two seconds. Stanford’s Annam Olasawere swam 1:46.30 on the anchor leg to bring the Cardinal home in 6:57.69

Men

200 Breast

Women

  1. Caroline Bricker (STAN)- 2:09.18

  3. Addie Robillard (STAN)- 2:10.01

Stanford’s Caroline Bricker and Cal’s Silje Slyngstadli battled it out in the women’s 200 breast with Slyngstaldi leading through the first 150 mark after opening with a split of 1:02.45 to Bricker’s 1:03.74

Bricker turned on the gas for the last 100, splitting 1:05.44 on the final 100 and 32.41 on the final 50 to touch in 2:09.18 and grab the win for Stanford by just four tenths of a second over Slyngstadli’s 2:09.54. Her final 50 was the 2nd fastest 50 of her race, with only her first 50 split of 30.59 being faster.

Bricker’s swim would have been the 4th fastest time in the country before this weekend.

Men

  1. Yamato Okadome (CAL)- 1:51.66
  2. Daniel Li (STAN)- 1:53.50
  3. Andy Dobrzanski (ASU)- 1:54.05

Cal Sophoomore Yamato Okadome got out first and fast in the men’s 200 breaststroke, splitting 25.09 on his first 50 and 53.27 on his first 100.

He turned about a second ahead of Stanford’s Daniel Li, who touched in 54.33 on the first 100. Okadome only built his lead form there, splitting 58.39 on his 2nd 100 to Li’s 59.17.

Okadome touched in 1:51.66, about a second-and-a-half off his lifetime best of 1:50.19 from the ACC Championships in February. This is the top time in the country this season.

ASU’s Andy Dobrzanski finished 3rd overall in 1:54.05, a little more than two seconds off his best of 1:51.93.

200 Back

Women

  1. Teagan O’Dell (CAL)- 1:51.83
  2. Natalie Mannion (STAN)- 1:55.48
  3. Alexia Sotomayor (ASU)- 1:56.72

Birthday girl Teagan O’Dell started her birthday off right with an individual win for the Golden Bears in the women’s 200 backstroke with her time of 1:51.83.

She got out in 1st, splitting 55.11 on her opening 100 to lead Stanford’s Natalie Mannion’s 56.54 by more than a second. O’Dell built her lead from there, splitting 56.72 on her final 100 to touch in 1:51.83, a little more than two seconds of fher best time of 1:49.16 from December. Her time would have been the 5th fastest time in the country coming into the weekend.

Mannion touched in 1:55.48 with her final 100 split of 58.94. She was about three seconds off her best of 1:52.42 from November of 2023.

Sun Devil Alexia Sotomayor was 3rd in 1:56.72, which was only a second off her lifetime best of 1:55.44 from ASU’s dual meet with UNLV earlier this month

Men

  1. JT Ewing (ASU)- 1:41.19
  2. Humberto Najera (CAL)- 1:41.61
  3. Hayden Hakes (ASU)- 1:43.13

The men’s 200 backstroke was an exciting race. Humberto Najera got out to an early lead for Cal, turning in 49.53 at the 100 mark. He sat about a half-second ahead of ASU’s JT Ewing, who was 50.13 on the opening leg.

Najera maintained his lead at the 150 mark, but Ewin out split him 25.67 to 26.02. From there, Ewing was able to take over the lead, touching in 1:41.19 after splitting 25.39/51.06 at the end.

Ewing, an NC State transfer, was about a second off his lifetime best of 1:40.06 from March of 2025.

Najera touched half-a-second back in 1:41.61, a two second add from his lifetime best of 1:39.30.

50 Free

  1. Annam Olasewere (STAN)- 22.25
  2. Mary-Ambre Moluh (CAL)- 22.31
  3. Lucy Thomas (STAN)- 22.48

As of publishing there is a glitch in the top two times on the meet mobile results, but Stanford freshman Annam Olasewere won the women’s 50 freestyle in 22.25, coming in just ahead of Cal’s Mary-Ambre Moluh, who touched in 22.31.

Olasewere was about three tenths off her best of 21.99 from the end of March. Moluh has been 21.57, which she swam at the beginning of February last season.

Lucy Thomas finished 3rd for the Cardinal in 22.48, a little more than half-a-second off her best of 21.89 from November of 2022.

Men

  1. Adam Chaney (ASU)- 18.98
  2. Remi Fabiani (ASU)- 19.05
  3. Tolu Young (ASU)- 19.15

The Arizona State Sun Devils swept the top three places in the men’s 50 freestyle. Florida transfer Adam Chaney swam 18.98, which was three-hundredths slower than the 18.95 he swam earlier this month.

Remi Fabiani was 2nd in 19.05, which is about two tenths off his season best of 18.89, which is the top time in the country this season.

Tolu Young was 3rd in 19.15, two-hundredths slower than the his season best 19.13.

500 Free

Women

  1. Claire Weinstein (CAL)- 4:39.23
  2. Camille Henveaux (CAL)- 4:41.64
  3. Ella Cosgrove (CAL)- 4:43.15

Cal swept the top three spots in the women’s 500 freestyle with freshman Claire Weinstein swimming 4:39.23 to win the event as the only swimmer under 4:40 this morning.

Her time was just over two seconds off her season best of 4:37.14 from two weeks ago, and it was about 10 seconds off her lifetime best 4:29.38.

She led from start to finish, splitting 52.99/56.58/57.12/57.07/55.47 on her 100s to lock up the event win.

Camille Henveaux finished 2nd from heat two, swimming 4:41.64 to win the heat and come in between Weinstein and teammate Ella Cosgrove. This was a new season best time for Henveaux, dropping from the 4:45.34 she swam earlier this month, and it was only a second-and-a-half off her lifetime best of 4:40.14 from February.

Cosgrove finished 3rd at 4:43.15, five seconds over her best of 4:37.98 from last December.

Men

  1. Ryan Erisman (CAL)- 4:15.76
  2. Reece Grady (ASU)- 4:18.51
  3. Liam Custer (STAN)- 4:18.84

Cal Freshman Ryan Erisman won the men’s 500 free in 4:15.76, which is about two tenths off the 4:15.50 mark he set a few weeks ago to rank 8th in the country this season.

He was about a second over his best time of 4:14.50 from December of last year, but this was his 3rd fastest swim ever in the event with only his best time and his season best time comign in ahead.

He split 50.01/52.26/51.98/51.60/49.91 to lead the race from start-to-finih and win by nearly three seconds over ASU’s Reece Grady.

Grady swam 4:18.51 to hold off Stanford’s Liam Custer on the final 100. He sat ahead for the whole race, but at the 400 mark, his lead had fallen to just a tenth of a second. He ended up splitting 50.47 on the final 100 to surge back ahead of Custer’s 50.68 and finish 2nd overall.

His time was two seconds off his best of 4:16.80 from last November.

100 Fly

Women

  1. Torri Huske (STAN)- 51.05
  2. Mia West (CAL)- 51.93
  3. Lilou Ressencourt (CAL)- 52.40

Unsurprisingly, Stanford’s Torri Huske won the women’s 100 fly in 51.05, which is the 2nd fastest time in the country this season. She will now sit behind only Claire Curzan’s 50.06 for the top spot, coming in ahead of Leah Shackley’s 51.37.

Mia West continued her strong start to her sophomore season with a 2nd place finish at 51.93, which would have been the 7th fastest time in the country before this weekend.

This was a new best time for West, improving from the 53.13 mark she set two weeks ago. Her preseason best time was 53.63 from last December, marking a near two second drop this season already.

Men

  1. Tommy Palmer (ASU)- 45.92
  2. Rafael Gu (STAN)- 46.22
  3. Samuel Quarles (CAL)- 46.23

ASU’s Tommy Palmer won the men’s 100 fly in 45.92. This will exactly tie his season best in the event that he set earlier this month at ASU’s dual meet with UNLV, which has him ranked 8th in the country this season.

Rafael Gu finished 2nd for the Cardinal, touching in 46.22, a little more than a second behind his lifetime best of 44.99 in the event from March of 2024. This was a new season best time by more than a second from the 47.33 he swam at the beginning of October.

Cal’s Samuel Quarles finished 3rd in 46.23, a new season best from the 47.17 he opened the season with and only about half-a-second off his personal best of 45.85

200 IM

  1. Teagan O’Dell (CAL)- 1:55.19
  2. Lucy Bell (STAN)- 1:56.31
  3. Caroline Bricker (STAN)- 1:58.96

Make that two-for-two with wins for Birthday girl Teagan O’Dell. The freshman won her 2nd individual event of the day, the 200 IM, in 1:55.19. This would have been the 3rd fastest time in the country this season before this weekend, just behind Leah Hayes’ 1:55.10.

Lucy Bell finished 2nd in 1:56.31, about four seconds off her best of 1:52.47 from women’s NCAAs last season. This would have been 4th in the country before this weekend.

Caroline Bricker was 3rd in 1:58.96, a six second add from her best of 1:52.01 also from NCAAs last season.

Men

  1. Jordan Tiffany (ASU)- 1:44.56
  2. JT Ewing (ASU) – 1:44.81
  3. Gibson Holmes (STAN)- 1:45.37

Jordan Tiffany took the men’s 200 IM for ASU in 1:44.56, a slight add from the 1:43.71 season best time he swam at the beginning of October. He was also about three seconds off his lifetime best of 1:41.88.

ASU teammate JT Ewing finished 2nd at 1:44.81, eight hundredths faster than his previous best of 1:44.89 that he set at the beginning of the month. His preseason best was 1:46.80 from February.

Stanford’s Gibson Holmes was 3rd in 1:45.37, a little more than a two second add from his lifetime best of 1:42.65 that he swam in February

200 Free Relay

Women

  1. Stanford (A)- 1:27.96
  2. Cal (A)- 1:28.36
  3. ASU (A)- 1:30.28

Torri Huske led off for Stanford in 22.05 to grab the lead for the Cardinal. Annam Olasewere swam 2nd, splitting 21.94. Gigi Johnson was 3rd in 22.35, and Lucy Thomas anchored in 21.62 for the team to touch in 1:27.96, four tenths ahead of the Cal ‘A’ team.

Mary-Ambre Moluh led off in 22.36 for the Golden Bears before handing off to Mia West, who was 21.80 on the 2nd leg. Sydney Griscavage split 21.95 in 3rd, and Claire Weinstein anchored in 22.25 to touch in 1:28.36.

ASU grabbed the bronze in 1:30.28 with their team of Indigo Armon (23.02), Shane Golland (22.20), Miriam Sheehan (22.47), and Julia Ullmann (22.59).

Men

  1. ASU (A)- 1:15.52
  2. ASU (B)- 1:15.71
  3. Stanford (A)- 1:16.93

The ASU men’s team took the first two spots in the 200 freestyle relay. Tolu Young led off the relay in 19.14. Remi Fabiani swam 18.74 on the 2nd leg, and Filip Senc-Samardzic was 19.28 on the 4rd. Jonny Kulow anchored in a monster 18.36 to bring the team home in first, two tenths ahead of the ‘B’ team.

The ‘B’ relay saw Tommy Palmer split 19.14 on the lead off. Adam Chaney had the fastest split of the session, swimming 18.06 on the 2nd leg. Quin Seider swam 19.05 in 3rd, and Seth Crow anchored the team in 19.46

Stanford’s ‘A’ relay finished 3rd with Ethan Harrington (19.36), Jonathan Tan (19.08), Andres Dupont (19.35), and Rafael Gu (19.14).

I don’t know if he was in a different heat or something, but the winner of the Men’s 100 Fly was Filip Senc-Samardzic at :45.84 (:21.45).

Stanford’s 4 x 200 FR-R was a fluke last season. Where are those splits from C. Bricker (1:41.73) and K. Wilson (1:42.2)? Without L. Nordmann and A. Roghair, it is even far less likely for history to repeat itself.
