Alex Shackell of Carmel Swim Club has scratched her one and only entry at the 2025 Summer Junior Championships. The 18 year old was the #2 seed in the 100 freestyle with a 54.76. This would have been her final opportunity to swim at Summer Juniors. Shackell already has her name in the record books as she holds the meet record in the 100 butterfly as she swam a 58.33 in 2022.

Shackell’s twin brother Andrew Shackell has already raced in Irvine and is on this morning’s heat sheets as well. Alex has represented the US at the international level on numerous occasions. In 2023, she swam at the World Championships in Japan and last summer swam at the Paris Olympics. She just missed making the US World Championship roster as she was 3rd in the 100 fly and 4th in the 200 fly at US Summer Nationals.

Just after returning to the US from the 2023 World Championships, Shackell swam at 2023 US Summer Juniors swimming on three relays for Carmel and competing only in the individual 50 freestyle where she finished 3rd.

Also scratching the 100 freestyle for prelims was Ava De Anda of Riverside Acquatics. She was the #21 seed in the event. She also is entered in the 50 fly and 50 free later in the meet.
