The 10 & under boys from Rose Bowl Aquatics broke a historic team record in the 200 medley relay on Sunday evening at the Southern California Swimming Spring Age Group Championships. The previous mark had stood for more than a decade, since 2015.

In this case, breaking a team record also meant breaking one of the oldest National Age Group Records as well.

The team of Marcus SoetantoErnest HsuAiden Woo, and Aikent Lukito combined for a 2:00.12. That smashed over a second off the old team, LSC, and national record of 2:01.26 set in 2015.

Splits Comparison:

New Record Old Record
Rose Bowl 2026 Rose Bowl 2015
Back Marcus Soetanto – 31.24
Ronald Dalmacio – 26.91
Breast Ernest Hsu – 34.06
Nathan Kim – 36.52
Fly Aiden Woo – 28.68
Max Cahill – 30.22
Free Aikent Lukito – 26.14
Axel Frau – 27.61
Total Time 2:00.12 2:01.26

The team started off in a big hole versus the record – Ronald Dalmacio, who would go on to swim at USC, was a monster as a young age grouper – but were able to claw back over a second against the former record on every other leg of the race. That included over two seconds on the breaststroke leg by Ernest Hsu.

Of the group, Soetanto and Lukito picked up individual wins. Soetanto won the 50 breast (33.76) and 100 breast (1:12.06) individually, while Lukito won the 50 free (26.52) and 100 free (57.64). Those were both best times for Lukito.

Irvine Novaquatics wound up sweeping the boys’, girls’, and overall team titles at the meet. Aquazot was 2nd and Rose Bowl finished 3rd.

yo 26.9 in a 50 back at the age of ten wtf. Genuinely could’ve grabbed 3 other kids from their local goldfish swim school and a NAG still would have been set.

This really needed to be televised like the Olympics where the 2015 team would be the ghost racers, would be an amazing watch.
