The Texas women did not have that many 80+point scorers this year. Their depth was just too much to overcome. Every member of their SEC Championship team scored points and all but two scored double digit points.
Junior Campbell Stoll was the top Longhorn scorer with 92 points over the five day meet. She won the 100 and 200 fly, and she finished 2nd in the 200 IM to be just four points shy of perfect.
Junior teammate Angie Coe brought in 87 points with her win in the 200 IM, 3rd place finish in the 200 breast, and 2nd place finish in the 400 IM.
Eva Okaro, a freshman, was the only other 80+ swimming point scorer for Texas, and she brought in 82 points with her 4th place finish in the 100 fly and 2nd place finishes in the 50 free and 100 free.
The Longhorns got a huge boost from some significant sprint freestylers. Last year, they had only one swimmer in the 100 free ‘A’ final. This year, they had three ‘A’ finalists in the event with Okaro and Nikolett Padar joining Gemmell to pick up 77 points. They also won the 400 freestyle relay by almost a second.
Texas is known for having strong diving, and this year was no different with the divers scoring 259 of the team’s individual points. It is important to note, however, that the Longhorns won by 327 points, so even without diving, they still end up on top of the overall leaderboard by more than 60 points.
Only three members of the Texas roster were seniors this year, and only one of the three was a swimmer, which means they are in excellent position to stay at the top of the conference in the coming years. Their freshmen class combined for 279 points this year.
